Heavily beamed, impressive Grade II listed, cruck-beamed barn, suitable for larger groups of family or friends, Symonds Yat and Forest of Dean neaby.

With its six en-suite bedrooms, this heavily beamed, impressive Grade II listed, cruck-beamed barn stands tucked away in tranquil meadows, on the owners’ 200-acre farm. The barn enjoys magnificent views over the surrounding countryside towards the Forest of Dean. The medieval cruck-beamed wing, open to full height, was built in the 15th century and now makes up the living area with gallery. The heavily beamed 16th-century wing has been thoughtfully restored to provide comfortable en-suite accommodation. The barn is particularly suitable for family holidays and reunions, and the dining area is perfect for entertaining. There is a large mature garden where seating is provided in quiet spots to fully appreciate the views and bird life. Colourful trees and shrubs lead the way to a 1-acre games lawn where croquet, garden skittles and children’s swings can be enjoyed. There are walks from the door in this area of Great Landscape Value.
Hereford (12 miles) offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The cider industry here is very prolific and enthusiasts should visit local cider makers and Hereford Cider Museum. Other places of interest include Hereford Cathedral, Mappa Mundi Centre and the chained library. The Herefordshire/Welsh borderland offers an excellent range of walks suitable for all ages and levels and enjoys fabulous panoramic views with many historic castles and beautiful ancient churches to explore. Ross-on-Wye, 8 miles, with 17th-century Market Hall is an ideal start for exploring the Forest of Dean. Monmouth, 6 miles. Symonds Yat, 8 miles. Welsh border, 1 mile. Shop 400 yards, local inns serving food, 2 miles.

Meadow barn was the perfect place for our group 13 adults, one 9 month baby and two dogs) to have a long weekend getaway. We were away for a late Christmas gathering which involved a four course meal celebration. The kitchen was perfectly equipped and there was plenty of space for prep. Overall the accommodation is fabulous! They layout makes it a very social space and the rooms are delightful. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were very clean and the barn has a great selection of boards games to use. Sarah made us feel very welcome and we really appreciate that she's gone to the extra mile to help you enjoy your stay. The instructions for the kitchen, the log burner and the local area were brilliant. It's nice to stay somewhere where all the instructions are helpful and don't give the feeling of strict rules and orders being given to you. Meadow Barn is wonderfully unique and I would highly recommend a stay there. We were there early Feb during a light dusting of snow and never once felt cold day or night. It really did feel like a home from home. We would certainly have no problem with booking here again. The wifi dipped in and out and for most of the stay we weren't connected but we didn't mind as we were happy to cut off from the world for the weekend. The location is stunning - a truly beautiful part of the country. We did plenty of walking around the local area and visited some sites. If this is a place you haven't visited, it would be worth the trip!

A beautiful barn with gorgeous garden to sit out in. We had 12 of us staying for the weekend and there was loads of space and great dining table for all of us to eat together too! We'll def return.

One of the few larger properties available with decent facilities for a less-abled person. Our only issue was that when catering for 12 it would be useful to have prior knowledge that the ovens do not reach anything like the temperature that would normally be expected for the gas mark set.

While we enjoyed the area and the property suited our requirements, the big issue was flies. We accepted that we were on a working farm but this fly issue did somewhat cause us some concern. We would suggest the owners explore some way of stopping flies from getting into the property. Fly spray was ineffective and every day we had to make sure that food was covered. Mealtimes were the worst trying to keep the flies off our food. Not nice.

Nice cottage, very roomy, comfortable and well equipped; with a beautiful garden and lovely views. Access from the main road was excellent by car, and the location was very peaceful, which made for a great location from which to explore the local area. The only issues were: a lot of flies coming in to the house (not sure what to suggest about this), the broadband was very slow / unreliable (please consider upgrading to fibre-to-the-premises!), and please consider getting some padded garden furniture!

We had a lovely time in this comfortable and extremely well equipped Barn. The owners are friendly and welcoming. The beautiful garden was enjoyed by all and although we did have some rain we managed several games of croquet. Good patio area with plenty of seating for our alfresco dining. Comfortable beds and plenty of hot water for showers. We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

Simple basics missing, like sauces mustards etc. The welcome pack included 4 tea bags and a few single packets you’d expect in a basic cafe. It did include a packet of shortbread biscuits. The heating was on timed and no option to turn on as and when required. At 18:30 it hadn’t come on, and we enquired as to why, and was told it would come on shortly. Which was 19:00. This is unacceptable. Also the owner came into the garden on two days, with a friend and dog or dogs and spent the time gardening, even when we’re in the house. This made it uncomfortable for us to go in the garden. The power went off in one area, which was caused by a mouse biting through a mains cable. This was not a problem, as can happen in any place. All in all, although we liked the house and we enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t go again and we never book a house or cottage next to the owners.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We always try to do our best to make guests comfortable and feedback is welcome. We are sorry the guest was not happy during his stay. The one acre garden is an asset, and needs attention occasionally, weather dependant, never before 10am or after 4pm and usually when guests have gone out sight seeing. We never visit the large area in front of the barn for privacy reasons. On this occasion our guest was made aware on arrival that we hoped to do some work in the garden. We would have stopped if asked. The guests went out midmorning and gardening took place far away in the trees, so we could be noticed as little as possible. If guests are present or have returned, we do not allow the dog to join us and take it home straight away. Out of politeness we never garden when guests are sitting outside or playing games on the lawn. Having owners nearby at hand to help can be useful. The central heating stopped overnight towards the end of the week stay. An electrician sorted the problem at 10 am the next morning and we were able to lock up the property when he had finished, allowing our guests to go exploring as they had planned. Fortunately the weather had been very warm and sunny. If guests request extra timed heating, we can always arrange it. Please be assured that Meadow barn is a lovely place to stay as endorsed by other guests who have stayed there.
