This is a very large property (the photos do not do it justice). It had everything we needed for our week away - there is also a dishwasher that does not seem to be mentioned anywhere. On arrival we found the property to be clean and tidy and our host Eugeni was very friendly although does not speak English so some basic French is useful. We paid the security deposit in cash. The location is very good for trips to Carcassone (not to be missed) and also the beach at Narbonne (about an hour away). There are restaurants close by in Limoux which is only a short drive.

This is going to be a very mixed review as Mas Athine has so much potential but unfortunately little touches let it down The Villa The Villa is a very grand building and in its day I would have thought it would have been spectacular, however time has taken its toll on the interior and large cracks have appeared on the inside plaster and quite a bit of discolouration of the paint which has dampened its grandeur. To be honest though its nothing a quick touch up would sort out! The bathrooms were lovely, although one of the light fittings was hanging out and the light switch to the bathroom would occasionally give you a small electric shock, there was plenty of hot water though for our entire family. Another concern was a constant drip that was coming from the hot water cylinder, we asked for it to be fixed but the plumber never arrived, so we spent every day emptying a bowl we found to put under the leak! Garden & Poolside Another disappointment was the pool which hadn't been cleaned for some time as there was quite a bit of dirt at the bottom and a few dead mice floating around, there was also quite a few weeds dotted around that the local dogs would urinate on, which made an area that could have been fantastic feel a little neglected and again tired Location The location was amazing with the wonderful vineyard's and mountains in the background. We all loved Limoux, Carcassonne and all the lovely little villages surrounding it, its such a wonderfully special place and I came away feeling like my soul had been cleansed. So all in all a very mixed review and with a few extra touches it could be spectacular and as a result draw in more revenue for the owners. We would come back but only when the finishing touches have been applied as there is way too much competition out there to try in this charming area
