The area offers a truly ’escapist experience’, with walking and many local beaches. There are many outdoor activities locally, including mountaineering and hill walking, golf, pony trekking, fishing, argocat trips, sea life cruises and bird watching. The crash site of an American WWll bomber can be found at ’The Fairy Lochs’ nearby. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Cozy cottage in a traditional crofting community. Quiet ! Witnessed birth of the April lambs helped by the local Shepard. Have a real feel as to what life was 60 years ago. Yet, the WiFi connected us to the reality of today! Best fireplace in rural Scotland complete with peat and coal.

Might be good in the summer but in November downstairs it was difficult to get warm. The open fire didn't project any heat until it had been lit for a couple of hours and the open fire in the second lounge was out of order. No kindling supplied and the box of matches had five in which wouldn't strike against the damp box. The décor looked tired throughout and much of the floor space in the main bedroom taken up by a large cot which wasn't requested. The 'starter pack' consisted of a packet of shortbread and a box of chocolates that expired before we left. On the positive the kitchen was well equipped and the en-suite to the main bedroom was excellent and warm.

Cottage rather austere but comfortable and warm enough. Only real gripe I have is that on the website map and Google Earth the location of the cottage is wrong. The location of Mary's Cottage on website map and Google Earth is wrong. The marker on Google Earth actually marks a derelict cottage and the real Mary's Cottage is more in the centre of Port Henderson. Views of the coastline and surrounding area are restricted slightly. Location is an important factor when deciding on a cottage so I was rather disappointed this time.

marys cottage was very warm and cosy and with a plentiful supply of peat and coal to burn to make a nice fire in the evenings, also there is a telephone with honesty box which is much appreciated as with no mobile signal at the cottage is nice to know family can be contacted if necessary, however there are some drawbacks as although the cottage is very close to the beach the views are very limited which is a shame given the stunning location, also think the cottage could benefit from an update and removing lots of old furniture which is making the lounge and bedrooms feel rather cluttered

A lovely wee place to get a way from it all. Furnishings are a bit old fashioned but I found that part of the charm. It felt lived-in, which I liked although the wife was less keen. But the host was lovely and we’d definitely head back. The scenery was jaw-dropping.
