This property is part of our Welsh Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Conveniently located on the borders of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, visit the wonders of both counties from this traditional Welsh barn conversion.

Nestled in a scenic wooded valley in the charming hamlet of Dinas, this traditional Welsh barn conversion, adjacent to the owners’ home, is situated in 10 acres of matured grounds with two friendly resident horses, where wildlife flourishes and flowers blossom. The former barn dating back to the mid 18th century, has been carefully restored to uncover much of its original charm and character, including exposed Welsh oak beams and stone walls, with lots of welcoming touches added to provide couples with the perfect romantic retreat whatever the occasion. The open-plan living area is featured on the first floor which allows guests the freedom to snuggle up on the sofa next to the cosy wood-burning stove or on a warm summers evening, sit back and relax on the private balcony and watch the sun set over the picturesque countryside. Outside, the rugged woodland offers peace and tranquillity in abundance, where you can enjoy scenic walks along the glistening stream which leads into the village. Conveniently located on the borders of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, the area abounds with fantastic walks and historic sites dotted around the county, including the ancient burial chamber of Pentre Ifan Dolmen tucked away peacefully in the Preseli Hills and the majestic sites of Cardigan, Cilgerran and Carew castles. The traditional market towns of Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthen and Cardigan are within easy reach. The iconic coastline of Pembrokeshire is within easy reach and features the picturesque coastal resorts of Newport and St Davids, as is the heritage coastline of Cardigan Bay which is famously renowned for spotting grey seals and bottlenose dolphins on a clear day! The historic town of Laugharne is just a short drive away and is famous for birthplace of the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, which features his iconic boat house and historic castle lying peacefully on the edge of the River Taf. The property is located 10¾ miles away from the popular Carmarthen Golf Club. Horse riding can be found 7¼ miles away. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.

Double bedroom. Separate toilet. Open-sided wooden stairs (no handrail) to first floor: Large, beamed open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove and French doors to balcony/small, galley-style kitchen with wooden floors. Shower room with toilet.

We stayed for 4 nights over Christmas and had an amazing time, relaxing with the log fire and little walks with the dog by the stream. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We were blown away when we walked in the door. It was exactly what we had in mind and more. The owners had decorated for Christmas with tasteful rustic decs and a beautiful real tree. An ideal romantic getaway, worked on me ...My partner proposed to me on Christmas Day and I accepted. We would love to return one day. One piece of advice would be to make sure you check in during the daylight as it's tricky to find down dark lanes and mud tracks. We really loved it at Mara Cottage, thanks for making it perfect for us Alex and Tracey xx

We found this cottage eventually driving down the lovely narrow country lanes. A warm welcome,a bottle of bubbly and welsh cakes helped us relax..Met the two horses and the dogs. Our little Jackie wasn’t too sure about Monty as to her he was a giant of a dog, really a big softy. Lovely cottage. Very quiet, and so dark at night. We would love to go back when the weather was better, the night sky would be stunning. Thank you to the owners who made sure that all was top notch. Xx

Had a wonderful break, cottage was very remote, but a great base for exploring from. Had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this cottage. Bed was very comfortable.
