Mill Cottage is a hidden gem, set in a peaceful retreat in the heart of a conservation area. The cottage is just 50 yards off Bampton high street with its shops, restaurants and cosy pubs, yet come through the 5 bar gate and into the garden, and you will find yourself in a tranquil haven. The River Batherm runs down the side of the garden, and there are beautiful open views over the surrounding fields and hills.

Grade II listed, Mill Cottage has a lovely beamed sitting and dining area, and 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin). It is full of character and has been renovated in keeping with its 17th century origins. Fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton bed linen are provided, and guests have shared use of the grounds with the opportunity to fish from the riverbank. The owners live on-site with four very friendly pointers and a cat.

Bampton offers really good village amenities, and is one of the gateways to Exmoor National Park with its stunning scenery, Exmoor ponies and red deer. The West Somerset and North Devon coastlines are an easy drive, as is access to the larger towns of Tiverton, Taunton and Exeter. Nearby are a number of National Trust properties, and within 5 miles, Wimbleball Lake offers fantastic walks and water sport activities. One friendly well-behaved dog is welcome, to share the fully enclosed garden with the owner’s dogs. Extra dogs may be accepted upon request.

Mill and Leat Cottages (Refs 14190 and 16952) can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Lovely friendly place to stay. Nice touches with cake, milk on arrival and holiday dog tags. Walking distance to the white horse pub and the swan. Good food at both.

Beautiful cottage: homely and warm atmosphere with many original features. 3 comfortable bedrooms, a small but very functional kitchen. The living room is packed with DVDs and books for rainy days. We have enjoyed the garden as well: huge lawn where I played hide& seek with my little ones, refreshing stream of water to splish-splash and plenty of flowers to enjoy. The village itself is quaint and pretty, with some nice local shops and restaurants/pubs. The owners were hospitable, helpful and discreet. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it

THE BEST self catering cottage we’ve ever stayed in. Thank you Carol & Alistair. We will definitely return - My Dolly was soooo happy to mix in with your four beauties. Your place is stunningly beautiful- unbelievable it’s just off the high street, but get through the gates and you’are in the countryside. Loved it so much, I want to live there!!!! Thank you ???x

A lovely 3 bedroom dog friendly cottage with first class facilities - an ideal layout with a generously sized twin bedroom and en-suite downstairs and two kings upstairs with super shower room. Fab gardens and a very convenient village location which was both handy for local pubs and shops whilst having a country outlook. Great hosts as well - perfect!

Mill cottage has got to be the best holiday cottage we have ever had! Bampton is a lovely little town with super bakery, butcher greengrocer and the Swan has an excellent menu but you must book! Last but not least Carol and Alistair are great owners whom we thank for their kindness. Richard and Eleanor .

A great base for exploring Exmoor and the coast. Comfortable living room, dining area and bedrooms. Kitchen a bit small but made up for by the outdoor space and shared garden. Owners next door are very friendly (as are their dogs) and helpful.
