This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This five star property is fantastic for families and friends. There’s a shared pool and games room ensuring guests are kept entertained!

Situated in the pretty village of Dewlish, surrounded by the rolling Dorset hills, these two highly individual and beautifully converted 18th-century farm buildings occupy a quiet corner of a courtyard on the edge of a 500-acre dairy and arable farm. Both are full of charm and character and are set around a shared outdoor heated swimming pool. Manor Farm Barn is detached, the larger of the holiday properties, and is arranged over three floors, offering eight en-suite bedrooms. The spacious living room has a beamed ceiling and French doors out to the courtyard, and there is a large, well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen with range. Churn House offers four bedrooms, and boasts attractive brick and flint walls with pine panelling in the kitchen/dining room. Each has its own patio with furniture and bbq, and shared use of a games room. Children will enjoy watching the farm activities, with ducks and hens on site. There are bridle paths extending from the farm and many lovely walks to enjoy, with several inns nearby and a village pub just 150 yds away. The area is rich in history, and the landscape featured in Thomas Hardy’s novels. Nearby is Tolpuddle, made famous by the Tolpuddle Martyrs, Clouds Hill (NT) where Lawrence of Arabia lived, and Athelhampton, a 15th-century manor house set in fine gardens. The Dorset Coast is only 12 miles away, with unspoilt chalk cliffs, and the notable beauty spot of Lulworth Cove. Shop 1½ miles.

Note: Manor Farm Barn (DPU) and Churn House (DPT) can be booked together to sleep up to 23 guests, making it an ideal venue for corporate events and large families or groups. By prior arrangement, catering can also be provided and the games room can be converted into a conference room

A lovely get away for 2 extended families with plenty of space for us not to be tripping over each other. Friendly hostess to greet us on arrival and felt nothing was too much trouble. Thank you

The cottage was well equipped ,very spacious and clean. The pool was a very good amenity. It was lovely to have a piano, but it was in desperate need of tuning. Also the sound on the T.V was very poor quality. Having said that , it was one of the best holidays that we have had as a family.

We loved the house! There was so much space and we rarely used the lounge - we were blessed by good weather the whole week. The swimming pool was fantastic and the focus of relaxation and fun. Whilst the pool was shared with another family this was never a problem. The shared garden is subtly separated which worked well for us but could prove difficult for those with young children or unsocial dogs - both us and the other family had a dog and they loved playing together and used the full range of garden. This may have been tricky if either party wanted to keep their dog separate or didn't Iike dogs as the gardens are not separated by a fence. The house is charming in its own right and situated in a lovely friendly village. I got up most days to walk the dog and everyday walked different routes through fields or quiet roads. The local pub was great and the home made pear cider very popular with the group. Lots of free range eggs available from people's homes. Also worth noting, that whilst all 8 rooms have ensuiyes which is impressive, all but one of the doubles had a bath with hand held shower attachment, rather than a shower. It was fine for us as we had a spare twin room and we used that walk in shower but may not suit all groups. There is a local vineyard with wine tasting tours and lots to do locally. The owners live close by and greeted us, but we're not invasive. Any questions about the house were quickly answered. We had to book in July for special family birthday and so paid premium rate but would go again earlier in the year in the future.

Our mid- May week was blessed with mostly fine, sunny weather so we were able to make the most of the facilities of Manor Barn Farmhouse. We used the pool most days and the games room too. No one occupied the other cottage on-site, so we had both all to ourselves! Our group consisted of all ages, from fit, elderly to young children, and all were well accommodated here. (Perhaps an extra rubber mat for the bath in the family 'suite' would be good, plus a lower extension to the gate at the top of the stairs). We ate in most nights, and used to BBQ too. The village pub proved a great place for a celebratory meal one night.
