The walk from the car to the cottage was mainly across a dirt-track so when you arrive into the hall of the cottage we wiped our shoes on the mat and accidentally one of my shoes touched her carpet (at home we only walk on our carpets with slippers). Angela immediately made a point of not walking on the carpet with shoes. She got on all fours and started rubbing the carpet which I found quite offensive. The dirt-track outside the cottage could have been tidied up. The rambling rose and nettles could have been cut-back so that no one should have to walk in the mud, especially as there had been a lot of rain. There was no option but to walk in mud and very wet soggy grass. The cottage was nicely furnished but to be told immediately, if you do any damage you must ring her immediately, it made you feel that you were afraid to touch anything. What sort of people do you get in the cottages if you have to have this made clear to you on arrival. I really did not like her attitude and was pleased to come home. For several years we have booked dog friendly cottages and never experienced behaviour like this before.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for taking the time to review your stay and for the message your Husband sent me saying “thank you so much for the lovely welcome pack and the delicious cakes and biscuits. We had to leave the cottage earlier than expected as my wife's mum was not well she is 95 next week.” We are so sorry to hear that your mum is unwell and know how stressful this can be, especially so soon after losing one of your beloved dogs. We are so sorry that you did not spot the booking condition terms that state that “if you take a pet with you it is not allowed upstairs, on beds...” We know that you were very upset when you arrived to discover that your dog Daisy was not allowed upstairs with you, as she has to sleep next to you to be able to sleep and as you were all still mourning the loss of your other dog who was originally coming with you too. I am so sorry that the heavy storms that we had just had, had brought the trailing rose down that went over our stone arch this was cut back as soon as the gardening company could get there so you had to step off the stone path onto the grass which was unusually muddy due to the heavy rain. Likewise, I am sorry that you were offended when I asked you if you wouldn’t mind removing your shoes. There was a shoe rack for them in the hall with complimentary slippers. Designed so that you can take off your shoes on the tiled hallway floor, before you go into the sitting room with its carpeted floor. Even guests who don’t usually remove their shoes for the carpets in their own homes, are happy to do so when they are covered in mud.

Lovely place - the hot tub under the stars is awesome. Bed is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped - the snacks and homemade cakes were lovely and Angela was always at the end of the phone if there were any issues. Only problems relate to parking which can be a bit tricky and the walk back up the hill from town can be a little strenuous after a few pints, but these are hardly the fault of the cottage. Had a great week and it was just what it needed.
