French Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage.

Set close to the wine route of the Côtes du Rhône, this beautiful holiday property has access to idyllic woodland, offering a peaceful getaway.

This beautiful holiday house, is set near the wine route of the Côtes du Rhône, is within the grounds of the owner’s farmhouse along with another holiday property. Guests have access to tranquil woodland surrounding the property, as well as a lovely shared outdoor swimming pool. Bollène, the first town in Provence arriving from the north, is located at the crossroads of four departments; Vaucluse, Drôme, Ardèche and Gard. It is an ancient city that has preserved a rich heritage, the most amazing of which is certainly the troglodyte village of Barry (one of the largest in France), which is close by and offers many hiking paths through woodland. In the immediate vicinity, many beautiful sights await you, including the Ardèche Gorges, the village of La Garde-Adhémar, Mornas fortress with its breathtaking view of Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Rhône Valley and the majestic river which meanders towards the sea. Less than half an hour away, you can also discover Orange and its Roman theatre, its Triumphal Arc and exquisite city centre, Avignon and its extraordinary palace, or Montélimar, the nougat capital, with its castle.

Approximate distance to Nîmes airport is 66 km.

Madame Garcia, the owner, is delightful and such a kind person. We had lots of chats and she made our stay very enjoyable. The downside to the house was that there is only one toilet - the downstairs wet room does not have one, as in the photographs. The house is also surrounded by trees. And the main photo on the site belongs to the owner. The house to rent out is at the far end of the one in the photo. Best place we visited was Grignan for the chateau, the village beneath, the lunchtime restaurants and the market. We thought €50 for cleaning after we had left & €30 for towels and bed linen was a bit expensive (just two of us) but that's the way it is.

Maintenance issues from the start. Incorrect information provided in property description. WiFi is non-existent unless you stand under owners bedroom window; “satellite tv” suggests uk programmes available when in fact only sky news and bbc news in English; there is no wc in the downstairs wet room, as stated; this “air conditioned property” actually has only one unit and that’s in the downstairs bedroom. If you opt to take your own bedding be aware the so-called double beds are in fact two singles pushed together, therefore needs king size bedding. There are two huge low beams across the steep and shallow stairs. If you are much over, say, 5’5” be VERY cautious. I am 6’ and wouldn’t have booked if there had been any mention of this. Finally, the path used to access the property is uneven, broken stone or concrete, and there are lots of steps on the site. Oh, and the €50 minimum cleaning fee is non- negotiable.
