Description

Wonderful views over the English Channel can be savoured from this magnificent and spacious period property set within extensive grounds

Luccombe Chine House nestles within the grounds of Luccombe Chine Private Estate, not far from picturesque Shanklin and located in an AONB looking out to the English Channel. The House is one of the most impressive, prestigious manor house properties on the island, set within its own natural and partially landscaped grounds of about 6½ acres, complete with fish pond, natural streams and castellated folly. It has unrestricted views of the glorious southern coast of the island out across the English Channel, and is the epitome of comfort with a beautiful 5000 sq ft relaxing escape. The holiday property offers a perfect base for walkers and cyclists exploring the coastal paths, adjacent NT land and the AONB. Shanklin, known for its sandy beach and clear waters, has a pretty Old Village with thatched cottages, tea rooms and restaurants. The Needles, with chair lift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay are worthy of a visit. Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House and Gardens are a short drive away. Blackgang Chine, and island attractions including Ventnor Botanical Gardens, a pearl centre, a dinosaur museum and a donkey sanctuary are all easily accessible. Golf can be found at Ryde and there is horse riding at St Helens. Shop and pub 2 miles.

Numerous rooms closed off, including ensuites. Gardens unkempt and chine totally overgrown. Neighbours strolling thorough the grounds at their leisure.

Several problems at the start, but quickly sorted. Kitchen not very well stocked with equipment. Enough pans and lids but they did not fit each other! The road in is appalling but once down there the view is amazing.

The house is a grand old lady needing a lot of TLC and investment. Sadly, although beautiful, there were issues with the plumbing, electricity and overall appearance which was shabby. In particular there was a bedroom with a 4 person Jacuzzi but NO toilet which meant going down to the toilet under the stairs at night which was very poor with no useable hot tap. One of the single beds had a piece of melamine board supporting the mattress, unusable for an adult. Fortunately as there were only 10 of us we did not use it. We suffered a blocked toilet which we reported and was acted on quickly although not resolved as it was our last day. And we suffered from mice, also reported. We had a lovely holiday despite all this but would like to see the house when some updating has been completed to a better standard.

Bathrooms need attention but that the only slight criticism.

Booked for my Dad's 80th birthday so we could have the whole family around a big table. Absolutely ideal for this. Plenty of room for partying and tho get away from the party if you want to. We will definitely book again! For me the best moments were seeing mum and dad as comfy as if they were in their own home and this fabulous morning view.
