For something a bit more rugged, head out to Crow Point and the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The nearest large town is the seaside resort of Ilfracombe. Enjoy an ice cream down at the harbour and see the Damian Hirst sculpture at the harbour entrance called Verity. There is also the Tunnels Beach and the Landmark Theatre, as well as a good range of shops and restaurants. Other local places of interest include Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and the Lynton to Lynmouth funicular railway, which all make for a good day out. Exmoor is a short distance away and on a clear day the views can be spectacular. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes, and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington. On site fishing is available, please visit the Government website to purchase a rod fishing licence and bring your own rods. Shop and pub 1 mile.

We enjoy North Devon as a holiday destination, and the location of the cottage was lovely. Our son loved the Wind turbines! We were a little disappointed by the lack of any sort of welcome pack. The double mattress was very uncomfortable and we actually came home a day early to get back to our own beds. The Duvets were cheap/old and were all lumpy, which even the kids didn't appreciate. But other than that we enjoyed the surroundings and the location. Thank you.

The cottages at Aylescott are beautifully done out, spottlessly clean and have a raft of excellent facilities within the cottages. Our cottage had a bath, shower, TV, DVD player, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, hairdryer, fridge freezer, toaster, Wifi and a nice cooker. The owner was welcoming and helpful and the views of the lake were absolutely beautiful. The place is out in the country so there are a couple of things you should bear in mind. The local village shop is a way away so you need a car to get your shopping before you head back each day. Also there is a single track road on the last bit to the cottage, but I never had any problems as the traffic on the road is very light and there are passing places. Also note that as its a rural location there is no phone signal in the cottages. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and my wife kept saying how much she loved the place I'd chosen. So I'd certainly recommend this accomodation to others.
