This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This farmhouse with pretty countryside views enjoys 25 acres of land and has its own stretch of the River Gilpin.

In an idyllic setting and surrounded by rolling hills and the glorious unspoilt countryside of The Gilpin Valley, Low Shepherd Yeat offers a selection of delightful refurbished properties on this former farm and can be enjoyed together or individually.
Shepherd Yeat End Cottage (ref UKC2940), has been refurbished with careful attention to detail to retain the charm and character of this delightful former farm cottage. The property will suit couples, smaller families and friends looking for a comfortable, well equipped cottage in picturesque surroundings. The well presented living room is enhanced by a wood burner, perfect for those cooler evenings when snuggling in front of the fire is the ideal way to end a day’s walking. French doors open onto the spacious veranda area wrapping two elevations of the cottage and allowing guests the opportunity to make the most of sunnier days. Glorious countryside views can be enjoyed from this elevated position – a delightful spot to enjoy breakfast al fresco or perhaps a chilled glass of wine at the end of the day.
Converted in Spring 2018 to offer ground floor accommodation for four guests in this picturesque spot, Shepherd Yeat Bungalow (ref UKC3085) has been carefully designed to make the most of countryside views from the comfort of this well-presented and stylish property. The generous open plan living space creates a delightful area for guests to enjoy relaxing time together. Well presented, its comfortable bedrooms are enhanced by full-height ceilings and countryside views from the master bedroom.
Low Shepherd Yeat Farm (ref LK3) is a superb, detached former farmhouse with a large, picture window and pretty countryside views. Extensively refurbished and redecorated, it is perfect for families or groups of friends looking for space, comfort and well equipped accommodation. The well-presented living space includes a delightful dining conservatory overlooking the garden and fields beyond. The double bedrooms are comfortable and enjoy private bathroom facilities. Its own games room offers in house recreation for all whilst its private hot tub is perfectly placed to enjoy the surrounding views.
Sitting in 25 acres of picturesque countryside, Low Shepherd Yeat enjoys its own stretch of the River Gilpin with a stone bridge over the river. There are beautiful walks and cycle paths from the door, whilst the Lake District Fells such as The Langdale Pikes and the Old Man of Coniston are a short drive. Only 4½ miles from Lake Windermere and Bowness with boutiques, galleries, tea rooms, pubs, water sports and ferries to Hawkshead, Coniston and the Grizedale Forest. Cruisers at Bowness offer trips round the lake taking in the wonderful scenery, calling at Ambleside to the north or Lakeside to the south to visit the fascinating Aquarium of the Lakes. Historic houses with lovely grounds such as Holker Hall and Sizergh Castle are nearby; don’t miss Muncaster Castle or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton.
Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth and other famous authors found the Lake District truly inspirational and there are many locations where their history and works are interestingly displayed. Nearby, the historic market town of Kendal has an art gallery, castle, theatre, larger shops and pretty walks along the River Kent. Whichever direction you walk or drive in this most beautiful area will bring you to breathtaking views of the lakes and mountains. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Low Shepherd Yeat Farm (LK3), Shepherd Yeat End Cottage (UKC2940) and Shepherd Yeat Bungalow (UKC3085) can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

On the whole a very good holiday. As usual with reviews we do concentrate on negatives rather than the positives. Positives - Aga, Games room, Sky TV, Peace and quiet,Location, Location,Location. Negatives - Dead flies everywhere, Needed a visit from the cleaner on previous day at least. No DVD player as advertised, TV's in all rooms except main living room not working, Only 1 usable full size snooker cue the rest were all broken. I always look to paying that bit extra for my short breaks, to get that bit extra. On the whole I was happy although for what I paid I did not expect to get the hoover out on arrival to clean literally hundreds of flies from every room that had a window in it.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are very sorry to hear that there were some negative points to your stay and do hope that it didn’t spoil your weekend. When we last visited the property recently, that there was a DVD player on the bottom shelf of the TV cabinet in the lounge. We will look into why this is no longer there and make arrangements to replace this. We have received no complaint of televisions not working from previous recent guests and will of course look into this. With regards to the flies, we will make arrangements to get these removed for future guests and can only apologise for any inconvenience this caused during your stay. We will also be looking at the damaged snooker cues. For future reference and if you decide to stay with us again, there is a contact number in the guest book whereby the maintenance team from Cumbrian Cottages can attend the property and rectify situations such as the ones you have highlighted in your review. Once again please accept our apologies and hopefully should you choose to stay at the property again you will not experience these issues in the future.

I left a comprehensive note for the housekeeper when I left the cottage. I do not wish to say anything further.
