The cottage was just what we'd hoped for. Lovely location looking out on fields. Close to a small shop and the local pub. 30 minute walk to Workington and 15 minute drive to Cockermouth. Gas fire was perfect for a cosy night in and kitchen great for home cooking but needs more storage space for food. There is no garden as stated but nice views.

Hassle from neighbours from the first day. They just hate the fact it’s a holiday rental. There was a washing line attached to the wall outside the back door but we weren’t allowed to use it as “it blocked their access” there were 2 wheelie bins which had to be placed directly outside our door for the same reason. Basically we couldn’t step outside the back door. One side, the neighbours were really nasty to us, twice folding our washing line down when it was full of washing! They were so obsessed about the washing line and bins they came out at 10.30 one night and were shouting and banging on the door and widows swearing at us telling us to get the washing line down or they were going to kill us! I was petrified and we had to ring for the local police! On road parking was ok if you have a tiny car but the road is so narrow we were scared of getting our hire car knocked so parked it further up the road for safety but then we got a written letter on the window screen telling us not to park it there again. The cottage was small but adequate for 2 people and there were some lovely walks close by. We only had BBC1 and ITV2,3 and 4 and although the internet had been updated we didn’t have any wifi for the last 2 days which was a pain as we couldn’t do online check in for our flights or get in touch with friends and family. All in all the cottage was adequate but I don’t think worth the money and the neighbours made it an absolute nightmare.

Response on behalf of the owner; I was very upset to read your comments, feedback from all other customers has always been very good with comments about how quiet and relaxing they found their stay. I am sorry there was an issue with the neighbours. The property doesn’t have outside space and this is stated in the advert and one of the reasons I created an upstairs rear sitting room to take advantage of the superb view of the lakes. The back door does indeed have easy access to the bins and a washing line however it is an access path that all neighbours need to use equally and fairly. Having spoken to the neighbours they state that you left washing out for days at a time which did indeed block their access to their property. The cottage is in the oldest part of the village and being built no later than the 18th century this is a feature of properties of this age. This is also why the road is a country style road. Having lived in the property myself for 15 years I can assure you there is adequate room to park a medium sized car outside as I did myself without a single incident. I was sorry to read that you hadn’t been able to watch the many free view channels in addition to the main channels available through the satellite television box and I wish you’d contacted the caretaker straightaway as they would have shown you how to use the television properly. Likewise with the WiFi, if you had contacted my caretaker they would have been only too happy to help.
