This terraced holiday cottage dating from 1740, was originally a customs house, a part of the Solway Garrison. Golf, riding, walking and cycling locally along with sea fishing. Garlieston House, gardens and beach, St Ninian’s Cave and the Gavin Maxwell Memorial provide an insight into the history of the area. Visit Wigtown, Scotland’s premiere book town, and the Bladnoch Whisky Distillery, and for a day out, visit Castle Kennedy, Port Patrick, the original gateway to Ireland, and Logan Botanic Gardens with plants from New Zealand and Australia. Shop 100 yards, pub 150 yards.

We enjoyed our stay at Low Isle House, the location was stunning, and provided a good base for exploring the area. The cottage could have been more cosy, the tiled floor throughout the ground floor made the rooms feel cold. Although we were very lucky with the weather for the time of year, when it was windy the cottage was very noisy, and made sleeping difficult. Also we thought it was unusual to have to have to bring our own towels. There was no nice touch, as there is usually, such as a bottle of wine, or pack of biscuits, left for guests on arrival. Although we enjoyed being in the lovely Isle of Whithorn, the cottage did not provide the usual standards that we have encountered many times when booking such accommodation.

The house would benefit from having a shower fitted. It would also help if it had Wi-Fi and a fridge freezer would also be good. Some of the overgrowth on to the back patio being cut back would help to enjoy some sunshine.
