A spacious cottage with a huge enclosed rear garden in a quiet rural location. Furnished in typical French style (so don't expect the latest designer sofas) with one downstairs and two upstairs bedrooms. Kitchen is large and well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and plenty of tableware and cutlery. The village has a few local shops and a mini market (all closed on Mondays), a petrol station, a vet (English speaking) and is within easy reach of larger towns with their full range of local shops and larger supermarkets (Domfront and Flers being the nearest). Be aware that the owners (who live opposite) speak little or no English so will you will need some basic French to make yourself understood - this also applies generally throughout the area. On the downside, the property is located on a steep hill, which the locals seem to see as a speed challenge for all vehicles - be prepared for everything from cars to tractors racing past at reckless speed, both uphill and down. This is a problem, not only from the noise point of view, but when trying to join the road from the property - basically a blind junction. Local livestock adds to the rural charm, but at the time of our August visit, attracted a plague of flies and wasps. The owners keep a horse in the adjacent field (which our dog took exception to), requiring daily visits across the garden to feed and water it - we found this very intrusive. The advertised Satellite TV simply does not work (no signal); this has been mentioned in several reviews and should be removed from the advertised facilities until the ancient, moss covered dish has been replaced. Domestic French TV works perfectly, but carries no English channels. More of a problem was the water supply, which is tainted and discoloured. Bottle water is needed for drinking and cooking, sinks and the shower cubicle are stained orange, which some may find off putting. We found this seemed to inhibit the washing of clothes. The property only has one toilet, on the ground floor, which a party of six may find a problem, especially as the stairs are, again in French style, very steep and potentially slippy (polished plain wood). Would we go back? Yes, we would. The area is beautiful, there are many interesting places to visit, and everything you might need is available either locally or in the nearby towns. Just be aware of the issues we encountered and adjust your expectations accordingly.
