This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This luxurious holiday property enjoys lovely views from nearly every room of the orchard and rolling countryside.

Longview is a contemporary extension on the side of a converted 17th century Longbarn. The wheelchair accessible property enjoys 20 metres of double glazed windows that provide a luscious panorama across the croquet lawn and surrounding flower and shrub beds, with 400+ apple trees in the orchard below and open fields for miles beyond; it is everyone’s favourite aspect. The accommodation has its own access road and disabled access parking with separate entrance so you can come and go as you wish. The property is equipped with a sustainable air source heat pump underfloor heating system that provides a comfortable ambience.

Outside, there is a large gravel patio including garden table and chairs for up to 10+ guests. The propane BBQ is great for summer al fresco dining and there is a fire pit for relaxing on chilly evenings. You have use of the lawn area that is great for a game of croquet. The shrub and flower border progresses from early daffodils to lilacs in June and lavender in the summer and autumn. Beyond the dry stone wall and gate, you can take a stroll through the lower apple orchard and have a picnic by the stream in the valley. If you wish, you can also help feed the resident chickens and ducks, and enjoy their eggs in the top orchard on the other side of the Longbarn. If you visit in May – June you will be delighted by apple blossom. From mid August to late October, you can enjoy picking and eating sweet juicy apples direct from the tree.

Lower Stanton St. Quintin and its sister village Stanton St. Quintin have had human settlement since the Neolithic period and Bronze Age, and you can look at some mediaeval earthworks that survive in the parish. It is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. Glebe Farm, next door to the property, is the oldest house in the area, built in 1582. Lower Stanton St. Quintin is a small village located less than 2 miles north of M4 J17. The property is conveniently located 5 miles from Chippenham where high speed trains from London and Bristol arrive half-hourly. Malmesbury (gateway to the Cotswolds) is 5 miles to the north – dating back to 500 BC, with an Iron Age Fort, and seventh-century abbey. St. Aldhelm founded the monastery and Athelstan, the first king of (all) England and grandson of Alfred the Great, is buried there. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Lobby with double sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only). Spacious beamed living room with wood-burning stove, cathedral ceiling, panoramic windows and doors to terrace. Sitting room with kingsize sofa bed, floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows to terrace and garden. Spacious kitchen with extensive dining area and panoramic views of the garden and grounds. Superb property with very welcoming and friendly hosts. Our reason for booking was its situation, with easy access to both the Ridgeway and the Thames Path: so, with mostly excellent weather, we were out walking all day, every day. However, we hope very much to return and spend more time relaxing and enjoying the delightful gardens. Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage, well maintained and in a perfect peaceful location. Maintained to a high standard and very spacious Only slight negative is that the bed (a standard double that fits back into the wall)was a bit small for us as we are used to a bigger bed All in all a nice break

We had a fantastic time at long view, the cottage is well equipped with everything you need. It is in a peaceful setting considering it is so close to the motorway . Lots of seating in the garden for you to enjoy the views of the countryside. A lovely welcome pack was there on arrival. We were greeted by the hosts Gil & Elspeth who gave us some idea of places to visit in the area. The best bit of all was playing with Phoebe their dog who is a delight & feeding Tom the turkey & the chickens. We thoughly enjoyed our stay & will definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at Longview. The welcome pack was lovely, it included homemade jam and apple juice from the orchard. The accommodation was extensive and beautifully furnished and equipped. The garden was a joy and we relaxed in the sunshine for some part of most days. Elspeth and Gil were excellent hosts and Phoebe the dog was great fun, such a sweetie! The location was perfect for travelling to places of interest which included Bristol and the SS Great Britain. Malmesbury is just down the road and is worth exploring and it has a Waitrose for extra provisions. A great holiday and excellent accommodation.

Wow what a fantastic cottage in a superb location. Gil & Elspeth were so welcoming, with a lovely welcome pack, including home made apple juice and their own eggs, wine, bread, home made Jam and milk, and they were always on hand if you needed them. The cottage had everything you could possibly need, from a bespoke coffee machine, to a 65 inch TV with Netflix! The cottage also had stunning views over the valley, and all the home comforts you would expect. We will definitely not hesitate to stay here again, it was so relaxing, and we really enjoyed feeding the chickens and eating the produce!

Longview was a wonderful place with fabulous views and a super interior. We have been to many cottages over many years and this has to be one of the best. The hosts were very welcoming and were on hand should we have needed them.
