Description

This beautiful retreat is a haven for walkers, nature lovers or for a romantic getaway, perfectly situated in the Cambrian Mountains.

Two 18th-century converted stone barns set in a private valley, 1200ft up in the Cambrian Mountains, and situated on a smallholding with 24 acres of forest, ancient trees, little streams, natural gardens and adjoining 2000 acres of heather-clad moorland. The properties are situated in the grounds of the old farmhouse, in which the owners live. A haven for nature lovers, walkers, those seeking tranquillity and couples looking for a romantic hideaway. This is a private and peaceful setting, far away from the noise of traffic and the stress of city life. Surrounded by the border towns of Knighton, Presteigne, Ludlow, Leominster and Hay-on-Wye, this is a wonderful base to explore this diverse and flourishing region. There is also a great folk and country music scene locally. The coast can be reached within 1 hour 20 minutes.
Alpine Cottage (OF2) is a stunning ’chalet barn’, which boasts atmospheric interiors. Forest View Barn (OF6) is a beautiful converted barn which has a large oak dining table, antique chairs and a writers desk with inspirational views. Both properties include a variety of books and board games, and have shared use of an undercover area for storing bicycles. Shop and pub 3 miles.

Three steps to entrance. Beamed living/dining room with Persian rugs, wood-burning stove and patio doors opening onto a private patio. Kitchen with electric Aga (for cooking) and breakfast area. Utility. Twin bedroom with 2ft 6in single and 2ft 6in pull out (can be double on request). Shower room with toilet. First floor: Beamed double bedroom with zip and link kingsize bed (can be 2ft 6in twin beds on request), washbasin, sloping ceiling. Galleried landing.

A little slice of paradise deep in Wales - peace and quiet and a perfect escape from the hectic pace of the cities, and a great place to rest up after the flight from New Zealand. Tom could not have been more helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was very well equipped and very cosy. Tom has created a unique and beautiful place.

The cottage is very original in its architecture; it is cosy, tastefully decorated, and kindly equipped with a great choice of videos, music, books and games. The beds, beddings, towels and kitchen equipment are all of very good quality. Nothing missing! The grounds are truly beautiful, with walks starting straight from the doorstep. For a child of our daughter's age (12), it was wonderful to roam freely and safely; she fell in love with the cats and dog who live there. Tom, the owner, is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The place is quite remote, with no phone line and a long drive to the nearest pub, but this was the sort of experience we were after. For us, the only downside was the weather, hot and humid, combined with the heat constantly provided by the Aga oven; at times, the rooms were a bit stuffy. But we would certainly recommend this place and will look forward to visit again.

As we wrote in the guest book.....WOW!!! It literally took our breath away. Amazing cottage and Tom was a very welcoming and helpful host. Would recommend this to anyone. It’s a chance to escape and the setting isn’t incredible. Will definitely be back.

This is the perfect getaway. The cottage is oozing with character and perfectly placed to explore lots of beautiful walks. There isn't much nearby so you will need a car but the seclusion is the best thing about it. I particularly enjoyed the Aga and the woodburning stove. Very relaxing and would return. Thanks Tom and Rodi!
