Dating back to 14th century, traditional farmhouse only 1 mile from Mawgan Porth, with quiet footpaths and cycle trails, Truro is easily reached.

Dating back in part to the 14th century, Little Lanherne Farm stands detached with a lawned garden, a small meadow, and a terrace that is perfect for watching the sunset while enjoying an al fresco dinner. Set in approximately 2½ acres of land, this impressive former farmhouse is perfect for a special Cornish holiday, or special occasion to be shared with friends or family. The house is divided into two parts, the main house sleeping twelve and a self-contained annexe sleeping two. The beautiful village of St Mawgan - home to Japanese ornamental gardens, country pub and shop - is approximately 1 mile inland from Mawgan Porth (with cycle trail and quiet lane to beach). It lies halfway between Newquay and Padstow on Cornwall’s dramatic north coast - famous for its selection of excellent surfing beaches, surf school, cliff walks and Cornish Coastal Path. The area is well served with several local golf clubs, such as Trevose, Constantine and Newquay (all within 5 miles). Padstow is easily reached, where fine dining, fishing and boat trips, and cycling along the Camel Trail can all be enjoyed in this quaint fishing village made popular by TV chef Rick Stein. Newquay’s famous surfing beaches are within 3 miles, as are Newquay Zoo and two sports centres. Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, Fifteen, is at Watergate Bay just 3 miles away where there is a beach café and an extreme sport academy offering kite surfing, wind surfing and much more. Little Lanherne is ideally situated for visiting the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Bodmin Moor. Truro with many amenities is within 15 miles; Bodmin, St Austell, Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Lands End are all easily reached. For golfers, the Merlin Golf and Country Club is very close by. Sea fishing and coarse fishing available locally. Shops and pub 1 mile.

We have hired cottages over number of year, this cottage was the most expensive we have ever used, mainly for its size on our behalf, there was no welcome pack on arrival, the main cooker was out of service ( this was sorted ASAP ) . several of the bedrooms were damp and cold, there is fungi on some window frames ,two of the showers leak, one to the extent water came though the ceiling into the kitchen. and handles came off in your hand. The sink in the main kitchen leaks badly . There was only half a small bag of logs for the wood burner. The land line phone didn't work. On conclusion all these factors didn't stop us having a very good family holiday, this house could be fantastic however it needs some serious TLC. Brian , the local help was very helpful and thankyou for that help.

Beautiful house but the up keeping was disgusting. We had to all go around with the hoover and getting ride of the spiders and webs, the wardrobes and draws has a horrible smell so we all had to keep our clothes in our suitcase. The WiFi never work at all during the week. The garden was very unsafe for family's with kids as it was not kept tidy and looked after properly. Our children wasn't able to play outside without us being worried. Also we has a plant growing through the air vent in the front room.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were very sorry to hear that you hadn't enjoyed staying at the house. Our cleaning team work hard to get the house into top condition for each family staying each week. All drawers are hoovered and checked for things left behind each week and they hadn't noticed any funny smell in the drawers. We also had stayed ourselves only a few weeks earlier and had not noticed any smelly drawers either. As for the spiders, we know come September, when it starts to get cooler, that we do get the garden spiders deciding it is much nicer indoors than out and it is a weekly chore to sweep all the cobwebs away. It is one of the downsides of being in the countryside. We have also followed up with the gardener and he remembers being at the house to welcome you and going to some extra trouble to double-lock off the pond as you had little children and to explain what he had done. He would have been very happy to help sort the Wi-Fi during the week if you had got in touch but unfortunately, it was only mentioned to him when he came back in, the Friday before you left. On the Saturday, the lawns had just been cut, the main beds weeded and leaves and debris swept from the patios so the area around the house should have been in good condition. There is a sizeable area of lawns and perennial beds for guests to enjoy and potential hazards like the pond are behind gates. However, the grounds run to two and half acres so the areas further away from the house are left to grow naturally. Finally, with regards to the plant growing through the window, the front of the house is covered in a Virginia Creeper, which gets a little over-enthusiastic as the summer progresses. Although we pull away the more exuberant growth from around the windows and doors on a regular basis, the odd stem has been known to get in through a window despite everyone's best efforts! Once again, we are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay and we hope that it hasn't put you off coming to Cornwall as it is a wonderful area with lots to do and see.

We had another great holiday at Little Lanherne. It works really well for our family get-together, with our ages ranging from 71 to 1. The view from the veranda is beautiful and we hope to return to enjoy it again.

Excellent, quiet location. Perfect for families; children loved the garden space. Verandah was great for al fresco dining or watching the aircraft taking off and landing (not noisy), and inside there was ample room for the size of party. The local beach was only 3 minutes away, but there were plenty of other choices close by, not to mention the chocolate factory! Would definitely stay again

We were a family party of 10 adults and 4 children, staying at little lanherne 5th-12th May 2018. We arrived before check in time to be nosey at the exterior, but the lovely cleaner who was there told us we could check in a little early (about an hour). On first arrival, the house is like a maze, with rooms to explore everywhere! Absolutely beautiful. There was a resident cockrel who we named Neville. We became very attached to Neville except for at 5am every day when he said his good mornings to us! There is also a lovely black dog which visits for food. He lives at the neighbouring farm. The rooms are comfy with clean linen and towels supplied. Some of the furniture has seen better days such as the children's beds in the yellow painted room; they were quite wobbly. The sofas in the lounge look tired too. There is ample space, and a huge garden for the children to play in. Bathrooms were well fitted. One bathroom had a broken tap unfortunately, and the plug in the same bathroom was broken too. There is loads of parking. The roads driving to little lanherne are narrow and steep so impossible to go above 10mph - just a heads up. The only issue I found is that the house needs a good deep clean. There are cobwebs everywhere. The house is very very old but it does feel a little grubby. Nothing a thorough dusting and cleaning wouldn't sort out. There were things like sweet wrappers and cotton buds behind dressing table in bedroom, children's toys under sofas etc which prompted us to think that the cleaning wasn't done as thoroughly as it should be between guests. The house is well stocked with cutlery, glasses, plates etc. Some areas of the house seem a little forgotten, such as the games cupboard which is full of part missing games and ripped books. There are no decent CDs or DVDs as most are either just empty cases or totally not worth watching. CD player is very old too, and there seems to be loads of them dotted about, none of which worked? I would recommend a new one. The welcome pack is very outdated; includes a fire risk assessment from 2012 which was factually incorrect in some parts. No guidance on how to use heating either in the pack; found a laminated sheet on the last day which was in with a pile of 2017 Cornwall guides in the kitchen. New guides would be nice too; we did leave a few. My recommendations would be a thorough clean, a nice updated welcome pack, new CD player plus newer CDs, a WiFi booster as it only works in the kitchen and some fuel for the wood burners. Was disappointed to have to go out and buy this! All in all, we had a fabulous time in this beautiful house. We are already planning a return for next year and hope to see some of the minor details mentioned above rectified. Nb; be sure to check out the collection of stones left by lots of visitors on the window ledge outside near the front door. Some are dated back to 2010! We even left our own :) photo attached :) thank you for a wonderful stay with so many happy memories xx
