Description

Nestled in the charming village of Blisworth, in south Northamptonshire, opposite the village pub, lies this cosy two bedroomed thatched cottage.

The property boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere with plenty of space for a small family or couples holidaying together. After a brisk walk along the many pathways and bridleways surrounding the village, head back to Lindisfarne and relax in front of the open fire.
The Grand Union Canal flows through the village, where you can walk along the scenic tow path and spot local wildlife, or take a boat ride through Blisworth Tunnel - one of the longest tunnels in England. There is an annual canal festival held in the village in August where you’ll discover trade boats, stalls, food and drink, a fun day out for all the family. Visit the surrounding villages of Stoke Bruerne with its canal museum, pubs and restaurants. Rookery Open Farm is close by where you can get up close to a variety of animals, take a picnic and learn about farming methods, ideal for a great day out with your little ones.
There are many National Trust properties in the area to visit, including Stowe, Canon’s Ashby, Claydon, Farnborough Hall and Upton House and Gardens. For the shopaholics, take a visit to the CentreMK in Milton Keynes with over 200 shops and restaurants, or for luxury shopping, take a trip to Bicester Village, a wide range of designer outlet stores. For a bit more adrenaline, Silverstone circuit and Towcester racecourse are close by. Milton Keynes is 15 miles away and has something for everyone including a theatre, lakes with watersports and Xscape with an array of activities including a ski slope, indoor skydiving, bowling, cinema, climbing wall, restaurants and many outdoor pursuit themed shops. Shop 100 yards, pub 50 yards and restaurant 1 mile.

We had a week in the recent heat and with its solid walls and thick thatch it was cool inside. Too hot to sit out in the sun we would have benefited from a sunshade over the garden seat. Well equipped comfortable and cosy. Some traffic noise in particular in the mornings with having the windows open but otherwise quiet. The pub opposite was handy and the Walnut Tree is but a short walk away via the tow path. Loved it.

The cottage is beautiful and refurbished to a high standard. It is small, but cosy and comfortable. The stairs are steep and shallow at points which should expecting from such an old property, but can be tricky. The property lacks a freezer, which isn’t the biggest problem, other than this the kitchen is very well equipped. The kitchen table has stools rather then chairs, could impact accessibility for some guests. It’s also not clear in the information that there is joint access in front of the property for the 2 attached cottages, it wasn’t overly used during our weeks stay, but it does mean people can walk right in front of the cottage.

Living in a back-to-back I am used to "small" but this really did feel cramped for 4 adults. I can't really criticise as I think the listing made this clear and we were being hopeful. Considering the lack of other holiday cottages in the area the price was reasonable but in comparison to other places I have stayed in the UK it was a little expensive. Parking was pretty difficult in the village but again to be expected for the area. Overall it was fine for a short weekend break.

The cottage provided everything we wanted for our week but was not as good as other cottages we have stayed in for the same price. The overall feeling that although it was described as spacious it was a bit cramped, especially the bathroom and we couldn't imagine having to share the property with another couple of adults.
