Located in an Area of Natural Beauty, this barn conversion enjoys stunning views and its set near great local amenities.

These single storey semi-detached holiday cottages (refs 26209 and 26210) are located in an AONB, 6 miles south of Bath, and on the edge of the picturesque village of Faulkland. The cottages are built in the converted stable buildings of this former farm and retain original features including beams and exposed stone walls. Both enjoy stunning southerly views over the garden and beyond. The village has useful amenities including two pubs, a post office and village shop, and there is a lovely green complete with old wooden stocks and the now famous Somerset Lavender farm. The location is ideal for exploring the attractions in Wiltshire and Somerset, including Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, the beautiful cathedral in Wells, Stourhead House and Gardens, Stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park. Just 15 minutes from the centre of Bath, where you can visit the Roman Baths, Thermae Spa, the Royal Crescent, the abbey, or just enjoy the unique shops, cafés, galleries, museums and restaurants. Shop and pub 1/2 mile.

All on ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen. 2 double (5ft) bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with shower attachment and toilet, 2 steps up to one with additional single and en-suite shower room with toilet.

Both properties: Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Shared lawned garden. Patio and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Cycle store. No smoking.

Description of a luxury cottage is misleading. It's a basic accommodation with little local amenities. The saving grace is the location with stunning vistas. We had to ask for a clothes dryer during glorious weather and although there is a site for a rotating line in the garden, we were given a second clothes rack. In the hottest summer in 40 years we arrived with a cool box of food to find the refrigerator was turned off???? We did mention to the owner how unfriendly we were treated at Tuckers Grave when we visited on the Sunday. His reply was that 'Sue' who served us had had a very difficult Saturday night and can be a bit brusque...? I would suggest you had an unannounced visit yourselves and estimate again your pricing calculator.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The farm is in a relatively isolated and quiet position but most guests regard this as an advantage. Tuckers Grave pub is a 5 minute walk away and the Somerset Lavender Farm is a pleasant 15 minute walk across the fields or a 2 minute drive by road. It is stunning at this time of year (June/July) and has a good cafe for coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. The Faulkland Inn is currently closed and we understand is soon to re-open. However the village of Norton-St-Philip is less than a mile and a half away and has two pubs doing all meals, a superb farm shop with cafe and an excellent Coop, open until 10pm. There are various supermarkets and another very large farm shop within a 10 minute drive. Directions to all of these are provided in the cottage handbook. The cottage has a brand new A rated washer/dryer. Additionally, it has a fold-up drying rack, which can be put out on the terrace if required and we were happy to provide an extra one from our house in this case – the guests were doing a large volume of washing as one person was travelling abroad after the trip. This amount of washing would not usually be required in a holiday cottage. There is a rotary washing line but we do not normally leave it up as it is rather unsightly and being of a heavy, industrial design, could constitute a safety risk for guests. The fact that the fridge was not switched on was an oversight on our behalf. The manager was away on holiday and the person preparing the cottage cleaned the fridge carefully and then simply forgot to turn it back on. Normally fridge and freezer are switched on. However we do not consider it would have taken long to achieve the required temperature. We would be delighted to have an unannounced visit from, who in any case visit regularly. With regard to the visit to Tuckers Grave pub, every other comment we have received in the last six months (since it has been under new management) has been highly favourable (see also website and Trip Advisor reviews). The unexpected conversation that the cottage owner had regarding the guests’ visit to the pub, as they were getting into their car to leave the cottage, is not accurately reflected within this review.
