We had a few hitches when we arrived. Nothing was major at first but all gave the feeling that the place was in need of TLC. Only 2 logs for wood burner and they were wet and as we arrived late there was nowhere close to buy more so no cosy fire that we had looked forward to. There must have been a few wet dogs in the cottage the week before as by Sunday there was a definite wet dog smell downstairs which we worked out to be the living room rug plus the dust and dog hairs under the sofas. It didn’t look as if the sofas had been moved to clean under. On Monday night the smoke alarm failed and we replaced the battery with all three spares inthe drawer but all were duds and once again it was too late to get any spares so had to disable the smoke alarm overnight( it was my birthday and we’d all had a celebratory pre dinner drink n couldnt drive to the late opening shop for batteries! The cold tap in the bathroom was loose and moved every time we tried to turn it on and water went everywhere. Tightened it up as best could without tools but kept loosening. Needs to be properly fixed. The bathroom door had no lock so we had to whistle while we performed our morning rituals!!!!!and the door required a certain technique to close it as it didn’t fit the frame properly. This was obviously not a new fault as you could see the continued impact in the crack in the wall above the door frame. The garden was uncared for ( apparently due to terrible wet weather) and the fence was broken and the gate scruffy! On the plus side the Towels and linens were lovely and fresh, it was in a good location for us, if you don’t mind a fairly busy road, plus it was warm and cosy...... until the heating broke on Monday night. Had we not had friends coming on Tuesday and a business meeting planned for Wednesday we would have headed home at that point!!! The owner did get onto that prompt but no one could come until Wednesday. So Tuesday and Wednesday at least we had the wood burner. The electric heaters that were supposed to be there were not to be found in any cupboards, drawers or under beds. They turned up after the boiler was fixed, behind a chair in the lounge- the only place we didn’t look!!! The owner did get the boiler ‘non specific intermittent’ fault fixed and it worked for the rest of the week and he did bring us logs and take away the smelly rug to be cleaned on Wednesday, plus we got a sum back as compensation for the heating. This went some way to fixing our general disappointment. I would not visit this cottage again unless it had been refurbished and had a new boiler. However I would visit the area again. The walking is lovely and not too strenuous, the village was great with things to entertain those who aren't big walkers and you are very close to Chatsworth which is well worth a visit- house and/or gardens. If you can’t stretch to the entry price try the farm shop and cafe for some fab treats! The little cafe in Baslow on the village green was also very good. The cottage has great potential and just needs a bit of TLC and attention to detail to make it better.

Lees Moor Cottage is a good base for exploring the Peak District. The cottage is comfortable, clean and well kept but does not have much outside space. You can reach Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Matlock and Cromford with 30 minutes - we walked to Chatsworth which was lovely. The village lacks a good mid range pub - the Grouse and Claret is busy and ok but nothing special - The Peacock is very expensive. Caudwell's Mills is interesting and has a good cafe. The village is on the busy A6 but the cottage is away from this and it does mean you can get around easily. We enjoyed our week and thought it a good location for a winter or early break.

Lees Moor cottage is lovely , from within the property it has the feel of a really cosy cottage. If I had to pick a hole somewhere, I'd say the sofas weren't the most comfortable, but that's a matter of personal taste. The location of the cottage is unbeatable in my eyes. So much to do within a 30 minute drive or much closer. Lovely walks, towns, caverns etc. There is a pub that is a 5 minute walk away (the claret and grouse). They do amazing food, breakfast and evening meal. We would definitely recommend this property and would book again here.

Lees Moor Cottage was a fabulous find. Location is excellent for those wanting to visit the surrounding areas of Bakewell - Chatsworth and Matlock and for those with dogs the cottage was perfect, with wood and tiled floors downstairs .Lees Moor Cottage was a fully equipped cottage with a good size kitchen and dining room , a cozy lounge with wood burner and two decent size bedrooms .Wifi is included and was accessible throughout the cottage . Highly recommended and we will return ..

When we arrived there was a fault on the central heating and it wouldn't work. I text the owner whom was excellent. He did everything he could to rectify the problem asap. He even had logs and heaters delivered whilst we awaited the engineer. He couldn't have done more and we weren't cold due to the cosy log burner. We love this cottage and this is the second Christmas we have spent there. It's proximity to Bakewell and Chatsworth House are the main selling points for us. We will definitely book again.

A great location but the cottage is tired and in need of a refurb. The fridge door felt like it was going to fall off every time we opened it and the heating system is in need of a service. Maybe we have been lucky in the past!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your comments. We have now resolved the door on the fridge (there was just a lose a screw). The heating system is serviced regularly and we will monitor this.

A well equipted comfortable cottage in a great location for exploring the Peak District but definitely wouldn't rate as a 4 star..... unfortunately there were a number of issues, firstly decor was very basic and tatty in places. There were leaky taps and fridge not working properly. The living area is very dark and the road outside was extremely busy. There is a parking space at the back of the property but we found this very tricky to park a larger car, very narrow with other cars often parked opposite the space making it very hard to park. We also felt the cottage could have been cleaner , underneath the beds and sofas in particular. We did not take any pets with us but it was clear dogs had been there previously as the rug in the lounge had dog hair all over it- not very nice. Shame really.... just needs a bit of maintenance and better cleaning!

We had a lovely stay at Lees Moor Cottage. It is ideally located for Chatsworth House, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Bakewell, along with many other places. The cottage is clean, and very comfortable, and we instantly felt at home. We would certainly stay again if we were to visit the area in the future. Thank you.
