Situated on the village outskirts, this detached Charentais farmhouse has spacious and airy rooms with a wealth of exposed stone and beams. Furnished in rustic style, it is surrounded by farmland and vineyards, with a large garden of shrubs, mature trees offering shady areas, and terraces for dining ‘al fresco’. The village centre is just a 3-minute drive for daily bread and basic supplies, along with tennis courts. Cozes is a 9-minute drive with its restaurants, shops and riding. For public pool and tennis, Gémozac is only a 10-minute drive. The picturesque port of Mortagne-sur-Gironde has good seafood restaurants and is just 15 minutes drive. There’s a daily market, supermarket and disco at Saujon a 20-minute drive and sandy beaches along the wide Gironde estuary at Meschers, St Georges-de-Didonne, and Royan, all within 30 minutes drive. Saintes is a 20-minute drive and has boutiques, restaurants, golf, Roman sites, and the chance to cruise on the River Charente - down to Cognac, for example, to taste the world-renowned brandy. A bottle of Bujard Pineau is offered to guests on arrival.

    Overall the house is fairly spacious with a lovely garden and a beautiful pool area with the whole plot surrounded on three sides by vineyards and a quiet road 35m away to the fourth side so it is very peaceful. Unfortunately we felt it was all let down a little bit by some of the tired and dated kitchen equipment and the fact that the rugs and floor coverings shown in the photos were non-existent which meant it wasn't quite as comfortable as it should have been - however, we did enjoy our week here and would quite possibly return! The local village shop which is a 5 minute walk provided basics plus fresh croissants for breakfast and there are some nice restaurants within a 10 minute drive too.

We are so pleased that you loved the garden, the pool and the location and wanted to respond about the couple of other points - We have now removed and updated some of the kitchen equipment so that it is more in line with the modern fitted kitchen. We do remove some of the rugs and floor coverings in the summer months as some people prefer not to have carpets when it is very warm, but we are now reviewing this in the light of your comments and will check with other guests too! Thanks again and we do hope you will return to our house.

    House was large and rambling with character. Darker than the pictures. French caretaker was very pleasant and owner took the trouble to ring us when he heard my husband had hurt his wrist on the stairs. Some money needs to be spent on new towels and crockery, they seem rather tired. The layout of the toilets was a headache for the couple staying in the huge room upstairs as it meant a trip in the night entailed them going up and down 2 flights of stairs or walking through another bedroom probably waking up that person. The weather was particularly dreary but that is nothing to do with the House! The area is lovely though. Moulin just needs some tlc.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Hello and thank you for taking the time to add a few comments on our house. Unusually for this area, the weather wasn't as good as it normally is, and being some 3 months after the long days in June, the house can therefore appear darker than when the pictures were taken. As we replied to the above review, we have now reviewed the kitchen equipment and our Regional Manager is visiting us next month to see the improvements. We have also now replaced the towels. Regarding the layout, you are right, it isn't ideal. A brand new house probably wouldn't be built this way, but equally wouldn't have the character and history of the house. We have provided a plan with additional details to the Agency so they can amend their description as necessary.
