The cottage was clean and comfortable and for four mature adults was quite spacious. The owners were pleasant and friendly though it was not a good start to be chastised for arriving fifteen minutes late after a tiring five-hour car journey. The 'welcome pack' consisted of one bottle of water, twelve pre-cooked crepes and four dishwasher tablets. Proximity to the town square and its restaurants is a bonus and coastal towns are around 45 minutes away along mostly very quiet roads. However, the house, being directly opposite to a large supermarket and its petrol station, means that the traffic is quite busy during the day and large lorries disturbed our sleep when backing into the delivery bay very early in the morning. All bedroom windows face south, directly onto the road, so, with no opportunity to create a through draught in the heat of the summer, the nightly alternative was to open the one window which would open and endure road noise or to close it with airless heat. The beds are quite comfortable though two bedside lamps were found to be not working on arrival and, for the first time ever in our experience, we had to make up the beds ourselves with the linen we had hired. The upstairs 'bathroom' has no bath, no shower, no door lock and is to be used (quote) "for urination only" - and the stairs to the downstairs bathroom are extremely creaky, steep and loud! Kitchen facilities were on the whole pretty good, though the wine glasses and some large dinner plates were securely locked away in a glass cabinet, there were insufficient clothes pegs and the provision of only two tea towels when linen and towels were charged extra was very disappointing. Wifi reception is good. The radiators in the lounge were constantly on warm, though this room should have been our cool refuge from the summer heat; the owner sought to correct this a few days into our stay but, for some reason unknown to us, this didn't work. Outside, the small garden benefits from both sun and shade, is not overlooked and is largely undisturbed by significant extraneous noise. However, the promised barbeque ( also evident in the headline photograph) was very disappointingly missing and there were only two reclining chairs. In addition two of our members found it very difficult to access the raised lawn because of the very uneven stone steps.
