Lavender Cottage is the ideal choice for a family seaside holiday or a relaxing escape at any time of year.

Lavender Cottage is beautifully presented and enjoys spectacular views across the estuary. The sunny dining area makes the most of these views and leads out through French doors to a decked area, a fantastic spot to soak up the sun or enjoy a lazy breakfast whilst taking in the sights of the passing boats. A pretty garden area just across a small path has a lovely children’s imagination corner and more great views. the property has received a ’Family Friendly’ Gold Award and sits at the heart of the delightful North Devon coastal village of Appledore, with its cobbled streets and the bustling quayside. Instow is on the opposite side of the estuary, with its sandy beach, bars and restaurants, and the wide golden sandy beach of Westward Ho!, popular with surfers, is just 2 miles. Bideford, Exmoor, Clovelly and Hartland Quay are close by, and the area is a must for water sports, sailing enthusiasts and fishermen, whilst walkers and cyclists will enjoy the famous Tarka Trail which passes close by. Young and old will enjoy crabbing off the quay, plus golf and riding is available locally. For family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are close by and don’t miss the annual Appledore Book Festival. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

The cottage is on a small housing development on the edge of the lovely village of Appledore. The cottage is spacious inside with a good sized lounge, kitcen diner and downstairs bathroom with bath and electric over-bath shower. 3 reasonable sized bedrooms. Wonderful views over the estuary and out to Instow from two bedrooms and the diner, as well as a lovely outside sitting area. There is a small lawn and a couple of benches further down the smallish garden. The property doesnt have wifi which is unusual. it could also have benefitted from more lounging seating in the garden and a sun umbrella.

We had a lovely week in Lavender Cottage. The view at the back is very pretty! The owners are very helpfull. The only downside was the missing Wi-Fi. The kids had a lot of fun in the garden. Good beds!

Lovely cottage. Would be brilliant in the summer as the garden looks great but not for October. It had everything we needed and the cream tea on arrival was a nice thought. Only one minor criticism. It could to with some bedside lights in all the bedrooms. Overall, a really nice place and we would certainly use again.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback, I’m really glad you thought our cottage was lovely. We’ve taken your suggestion on board and had the electrician in over the winter; there are now bedside lights in all the bedrooms. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Lovely little house, could do with a couple more pots/pans for cooking and lamps in the bedrooms. Still a brilliant house and would definitely return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your review; I’m pleased to hear you liked our cottage. We’ve had the electrician in over the winter to fit bedside lights in the bedrooms as you recommended. We’ve also put you those extra pots and pans you asked for, ready for your next visit. You might like to know that there’s now a much bigger fridge-freezer and some more storage in the kitchen too, which we hope you’ll find useful.

We would not stay at this property again. The lack of lamps and a rug make the living room very dark, bare and uncomfortable. There are no bedside lights which makes reading in bed very unpleasant with just the main very bright light. It is such a shame because if these very small things were added it would make a huge difference to the experience and feel of the cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; So sorry you weren’t completely happy with our cottage. We’ve taken your points on board, so I hope you’ll give us another chance. We’ve added a standard lamp to the lounge, a bedside lamp and a pull switch above the bed to the master bedroom (so you don’t have to get out of bed to turn the main light off), and we’ve had an electrician in to fit bedside reading lights above all of the single beds. We’re glad you think these will make a huge difference and would love you to come back again.
