This spacious detached holiday home provides idyllic accommodation for guests looking to explore this delightful location.

Located on the outskirts of the village of Banks and surrounded by open countryside, Laurel House provides spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation, ideal for families wanting to explore both coast and country. This well-presented, detached home, nestled adjacent to the owner home, offers plenty of living space, and benefits from a well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, separate dining room, for formal dining, and a lovely bright lounge with French doors leading to the rear patio. Upstairs, there are three good sized bedrooms; the master even boasts an en-suite shower room.
Guests can enjoy a wander round the Car boot, which is held in the neighbouring field on Saturdays and bank holiday Mondays, perfect for picking up a bargain! The village of Banks has a pub, a deli/café, a supermarket, chemist and takeaways, and within a few miles there are several other pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The next village on the way to Southport is Churchtown which has the Botanical Gardens and quaint shops. The Victorian seaside town of Southport is just 5 miles away, and here you will find a great selection of shops, bars, restaurants and cafés, as well as a traditional fun fair, multi-screen cinema, bowling alley and indoor water park. Southport hosts many popular annual events, including the RHS Flower Show, Southport Airshow and the Fireworks Championships. Other places worth visiting along this stretch of coast include the beaches at Ainsdale and Crosby, which is famous for the Anthony Gormley sculpture ‘Another Place’. Formby is also worth a visit with its sand dunes and pine woods, which are home to red squirrels and natterjack toads. RSPB Marshside is just 2 miles away and is a haven for wildlife lovers and birdwatchers, and Martin Mere Wetlands Centre is 6 miles. The network of footpaths and dedicated cycle routes also makes this a great destination for those who love the outdoors. There are some great walks from the doorstep and you can cycle into Southport which then connects to the Trans Pennine Trail. Other activities available locally include golf and at nearby ‘Leisure Lakes’ there is fishing, horse riding and watersports.
Other places of interest nearby include National Trust’s Rufford Old Hall, 6 miles and the city of Preston, 15 miles. If you fancy a longer drive, the city of Lancaster and the beautiful Ribble Valley district, with its picturesque villages and welcoming country inns, can be reached in an hour. Just over an hour’s drive will take you into the southern Lake District or Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Should you wish to take a break from driving, Southport also has a train station with regular services into the vibrant city of Liverpool whose many attractions include the Albert Dock, Liverpool One and The Beatles Story, as well as its multitude of museums, theatres, bars, restaurants, art galleries and shops. Pros: friendly owners, comfortable beds, reasonably near pub, takeaways, shop. Kitchen reasonably well equipped. Loved the fridge freezer and cooker. Well placed for Southport and other attractions. Cons/things to be aware of when booking: no safe garden for toddler, just a small patio with lots of plant pots. No downstairs loo. On main road, hence lower mark for location. Too few mugs and spoons. Plates are not microwave safe. No food basics in kitchen except salt, pepper and tea bags. Armchairs impossible to get out of!

Lovely, large house with friendly owners. Kitchen and bathrooms excellent. Very clean and well equipped, lots of glasses! The beds were very firm which was a problem for my arthritic hip, maybe a mattress topper would help. The private field was a bonus for the dog. Nice views from the lounge windows of the birds flying over to the nature reserve nearby. Nice drive to Southport along Marine Drive through the nature reserve.
