Description

The perfect retreat for a family, with underfloor heating and an indoor swimming pool, just 3 miles from Stowmarket.

Enjoying a private indoor heated swimming pool separately housed in its own building, this spacious, single-storey, detached holiday property offers the perfect rural retreat whatever the time of year. The purpose-built swimming pool building has underfloor heating all year round and includes two changing rooms with showers, separate toilet and a large sitting area for spectators. Lark Rise sits in ¾ of an acre of colourful gardens, with apple and plum orchard, and is surrounded by open countryside. It lies less than 3 miles from the ancient market town of Stowmarket, which offers a leisure centre, children’s indoor play area, golf course and many amenities.
The location is ideal for day trips to the coast or the Norfolk Broads, as well as racing at Newmarket. There are many historic buildings within easy reach, including Ickworth House Park and Gardens (NT), Euston Hall, Framlingham Castle, Eye Castle, Wingfield Old College and many more. For excellent country walks, Gipping Valley and Thornham Estate have 12 miles of footpaths, while at Suffolk Water Park and Needham Lake there are water sports available. The area also offers plenty for animal lovers, with British birds of prey at Stonham Barns and the Suffolk Wildlife Park both within easy reach. Nearby is the busy port of Ipswich, which boasts several medieval churches and some fine 16th-century buildings. The museum and art gallery houses replicas of the famous Sutton Hoo archaeological finds, and Christchurch Mansion, set in a large park, is a lively domestic museum with furniture, dolls’ houses and children’s toys, as well as a fine art collection. We had a lovely stay at Lark Rise. There were 6 in our family group and sometimes we struggle with kitchen storage space. This was not the case at Lark Rise as the kitchen had more than enough cupboard space for our weekly shop. The accommodation was good and both twin rooms had plenty of space for the boys. It was also nice to have the different TV options as often these are limited to freeview only at places we have previously stayed. The swimming pool is brilliant and the owners had supplied an assortment of floats and equipment for the kids to play with. We were lucky and had superb weather for our 2 weeks but the indoor pool would be a real bonus in colder weather. We were able to visit a variety of attractions within a 30 minute drive including Banham Zoo, Framlingham Castle, Sutton Hoo, Flatford and Bury St Edmunds. We also went to Great Yarmouth for a day at the sea but that was a slightly longer drive. The only slight drawback was the flies but the owners had done everything possible to limit the impact, providing sprays and fly screens for the lounge. This seemed to control the impact and I suspect we were just unlucky with the combination of weather and harvest time making their presence more pronounced than normal. Overall a great property.

We held a family gathering at Lark Rise and we were all impressed with the place. It was clean and welcoming. Lovely finishing touches like the fresh flowers on the tables. The pool was a huge success with the children especially having a great time in it, the underfloor heating was warm and the showers and toilets in the building were also clean. Yes we will definitely be going there again!
