Within the historic Leahurst Estate this large, immaculate property is the perfect venue for a special gathering of friends or family.

Lamp Cottage is an immaculate stone detached holiday property set in parkland where sheep and deer roam and is located in the grounds of the historic Leahurst Estate, the former summer residence of Florence Nightingale and her family. It is approached down a private driveway through a meadow and a gate leading to a gravelled parking area. A large oak porch leads into this delightful accommodation where furnishings and fittings are of the a highest quality and spectacular unspoiled south west facing views across the Amber Valley make this the most unique of properties. The property is entered into via a large entrance hall, off which are the main reception rooms. To the rear of the hall, through double glazed doors, is the fully equipped kitchen which is open to the south facing conservatory style dining area that has some occasional seating and fold back glazed doors opening onto a large wrap around patio. A large teak table and chairs, a custom steel barbecue and a well-stocked herb garden cater for any alfresco dining requirements, in addition to sun loungers, spacious lawns and stunning views. The living room, situated at the rear with comfy seating and doors opening onto patio and lawn, features a wall-mounted wood-burning stove creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. There is a further study/TV room with board games and seating and a cloakroom. The stairs lead to the open gallery landing giving access to the bedrooms. Gardens and meadowland surround the property and there are also footpaths from the doorstep. Within a mile of the property is the World Heritage site that houses the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning factories and just under 4 miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars. Slotted in between are more traditional pubs, restaurants, tea shops and ice cream parlours. Here visitors can experience a cable car ride up the dramatic face of the gorge The Heights of Abraham and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. Shop and pub ¼ mile.

This was our second time to Lamp Cottage. Beautiful accommodation in a gorgeous setting. My only complaint would be that given the cost of this cottage, I would expect all equipment to be working and clean. Unfortunately, we had to clean out the woodburner on the night of arrival before we could light a fire. Plates had been put away dirty and the spray attachment in the kitchen leaked in the cupboard underneath. The above explanation is the only reason why I can't give this cottage a 10/10. It's a stunning cottage with fabulous styling and incredibly hard to leave!

Lamp cottage is stunning, furnished beautifully, a real treat. We had a problem with the heating and couldnt find any instructions so we were cold on our first night. We ran out of hot water a couple of times and had to wait for it to heat up which was a bit inconvenient, although the response when I rang was excellent. We felt a welcome book would have been helpful, with some history about the cottage too, no feedback forms either. The cooker hob instructions were difficult to find as well after taking us an hour to try and cook breakfast. Also instructions on what we needed to do when leaving the cottage, ie beds, fire, etc None of this affected our stay, it was superb and would definately go again.

We come away as a group every year and are always looking for a lovely house to stay in that has the room and comfort we need. Lamp Cottage was outstanding on every level. Fantastic house, great location, lovely furnishings and fittings and was even dressed for Christmas with decorations! We could not fault Lamp Cottage and would love to come again in the summer time to appreciate the garden and al fresco dining! Thanks again for a lovely weekend

Just enjoyed a family holiday at Lamp Cottage with children and grandchildren. The cottages was spacious and just perfect for all of us. It is set in a quiet location with a lovely garden and lovely views. I would definitely recommend this cottage and will be very keen to return there again sometime in the future.

We had a lovely relaxing week at Lamp Cottage. Spacious, lovely layout, furnishings, comfortable. You couldn't fault it really....except! We had no internet access for the whole week due to a BT fault. Owners team tried to fix but it was BT fault so what can you do... Only other minor quibble (and I'm being really nit-picky here because I know they'd want to know) was lack of small bowls for picks and crisps for our g&ts! Also the folder with the house info really needs updating. Local Sainsbury's IS open on a Sunday. As I said small minor thing. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage.

Cottage had lovely location and peaceful, some furniture and fittings very tired and in need of renewal, ie plates with chips out of them, stains on rugs and sofas, would say should be rated as 4 star not 5, communications between cleaning and maintenance is needed, we had missing shower hoses, window catches not on windows etc, therefore a bit expensive for what you got in a cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. I am rather confused by it to be honest. I have been into Lamp Cottage today and removed the one chipped plate out of the 20 or so plates in there. All of the shower hoses are in tact. The Rug did have some marks on it and the ladies have cleaned this. You are right one of the window openings has been damaged and I am waiting for a replacement. I’m sure your review has helped people make up their mind. Look forward to seeing you soon.

Lamp Cottage is a spacious and very comfortable property with stunning views from a large garden. The kitchen and conservatory are a joy to behold with the addition of a large barbecue outside. The village of Holloway has a superb Butcher, which is to be recommended, also there are two Bus routes into Matlock. This is our third visit and we are already looking to book the Cottage again for next year.

We had a great week at Lamp Cottage - a lovely pace to stay. The house is very spacious and comfortable and was spotlessly clean & well equipped, we hope to return.
