It is decorated and furnished to a very good standard and retains many original features including a wig cupboard, feature fireplaces and in the main bedroom there is original writing on the wall from 1756. The cottage is situated in the small village of Niton on the south east of the Isle of Wight, and is within a short distance of the beach. The neighbouring town of Ventnor is a short drive away, as are the small coves and quiet beaches of the west coast of the island. Lamont Cottage lies on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with stunning walks and cycle routes, and close to the beautiful south coast with its golden beaches.

Other attractions include Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Isle of Wight Pearl, Dinosaur Isle, donkey sanctuary, Calbourne Water Mill with its 17th century working watermill, Queen Victoria’s holiday residence Osborne House and Gardens, and Carisbrooke Castle. With one of the most beautiful parts of the coastal path extending from close to the cottage, this is a wonderful area for walking.
The sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes, and the popular resorts of Shanklin and Sandown are nearby. The island can be explored from the open-top buses that stop regularly at various collection points. Outdoor pursuits include cycling, riding and fishing. Beach 1½ miles. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lamont Cottage. It is very well equipped and the welcome basket was a lovely surprise. We enjoyed reading the history of the cottage which was very interesting.

Lovely cottage but very small and low ceilings, not good for a tall person. The main bedroom bed was very uncomfortable and due to size of Kitchin the fridge is mini.On the plus side it’s old worldy as well as modern, great local shop and newsagent near. Location good for getting around the island driving. Very well equipped cottage and hosts great. Just not for us.
