La Maison des Champs is without doubt a quaint, quirky cottage in a very peaceful location and with a beautiful private garden. The cottage itself however we felt is in need of some TLC and while, with such an old cottage some dust, cowbebs etc can be expected, we found the furniture to be very dusty and dirty and we shared the cottage with several cockroaches during our stay which was not good. If you're a lover of 'oldy worldy 'furniture and artefacts and looking for a tranquility and the feeling of travelling back in time then this cottage is perfect. The bed is very comfortable and english tv is a positive.

Lots of cobwebs and the structure shows signs of decay, eg we couldn’t use the upstairs balcony as it was rotting away. We only learned about this on arrival. The washing machine which we understood had broken down, had not been fixed or replaced. We couldn’t lock the front door from inside the gîte! There was a bolt, however. The lighting was very poor downstairs. The kitchen sink needed a good clean, which we did before we used it. Overall we managed as we are practical people.

La Maison des Champs is a lovely place. Masses of room for two people - comfortable bed with nice linen - and wonderful mature garden with loads of garden birds - and British TV! The house has been decorated eclectically but with care and there are interesting objects everywhere. The countryside around is beautiful. The kitchen is well equipped but it was a shame that the washing machine had been taken away when we visited. Also we felt that we had to give the fridge a clean before using it. Overall though, a lovely place to spend a week or two.
