The cottage is very attractively sited within the extensive grounds of the historic Château de Jaillac. It’s easier to find than the directions suggest because it’s specifically named on local road signs and at the end of the long tree-lined drive. The cottage has a lovely big kitchen/living area with a huge farmhouse table and impressive stone fireplace. It’s very well equipped with all mod cons except a dishwasher. There’s even an internet connection and tv which we didn’t expect in such a rural location. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The shower and basin are also good and there’s a separate wc. The overall space is large enough for two couples to share. The cottage is about 100m from the chateau and sits in its own extensive lawns about 150m from the country road, so it’s fairly private although you can wave to the hosts as they occasionally come and go. We were welcomed by the friendly owners who made every effort to make sure we were fully informed of all the features and comforts. The house keeper lives in a wing of the chateau and is on-hand to help with any problems. We were able to make ourselves understood using our best franglais and they made sure we understood them too. Being rural, there’s little on offer very nearby, but there are walks across farmland and through woods around the chateau. Don’t overlook the villages, towns, countryside and other chateaus nearby - they are charming and undiscovered (quiet). We would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet country retreat and a relaxed pace of life.
