This property is part of our French Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage.

This detached holiday property sits in the perfect, rural location for a family holiday.

Located in a rural location close to the owner’s farmhouse, these detached properties (refs AF004 and AF008) can be rented together for a larger group to enjoy. They have been thoughtfully furnished throughout, and enjoy their own private, enclosed garden.
On-site there is a relaxing swimming pool (open from mid-April until September), enjoy the sauna and Turkish bath (from March to November), or alternatively, you can practice your serve on the shared tennis court.
There are also walking and fishing opportunities in the surrounding area, or venture out to St-Quentin, only 15km away, with its beautiful basilica and lovely Champs-Élysées garden. Enjoy the museum at Péronne or visit the many WWI memorials in the region. Not to be missed is a walk around the American War Memorial in the village itself. Arras, with its cobble squares, music festivals and stunning views from the bell tower, makes a lovely day out, or why not enjoy a real steam train ride on the P’tit Train de la Haute Somme with its beautiful scenery and lovely vistas?

Approximate distance to Beauvais airport is 137 km.

The host Philippe was very nice; he spoke very little English although we managed to make ourselves understood. The location is amazing and is the cottage's strongest suit: its in the heart of the battlefields, so there is plenty to do there if you are wanting to pay your respects to the war dead. There is an American cemetery in the village a short walk from the property which is well worth a visit, and if you look up WW1 maps, the German trenches went past the property. It sits on the Hindenburg line. Other cemeteries are a short drive away. St Quentin is a pretty town about 20 mins drive away. The pool and sauna are adequate but a bit dated. I wasn't sure how clean they were. However...In respect of the property itself, I have found this review difficult to write, as it is hard to find much positive about the property if one is honest. It is sorely in need of some refurbishment - a number of areas need immediate attention as they are unsafe, such as the wobbly banister, broken paving on the patio and several of the fittings in the house hanging on by a thread. The garden is a little ramshackle and unkempt. Probably when it was first established 20 years or more ago, it would have been fine, but things have worn out since then with very little maintenance done in the meantime. For the price, one cannot expect miracles, but I would hope at least some maintenance will now be done to make the property safe. The property is quaint, and in the heart of the French countryside, so if that's what you are looking for in a holiday cottage this will be adequate, but not much more.
