This spacious detached villa is situated in a quiet area on the edge of the bustling harbour town of Stranraer. Situated at the head of Loch Ryan, it’s the gateway to the Rhinns of Galloway and for more than a century was a busy ferry port for services between south west Scotland and Northern Ireland. The town has many shops and there are plenty of places to dine out too. The town’s main attraction is the Castle of St. John, a ruined four-storey tower house built around 1500, which sits on a green in the main street, and there are several eye-catching artworks in the area surrounding the castle with Stranraer Museum in the old town hall. Close by are Castle Kennedy Gardens, with the castle, two lochs, a giant lily pond and an avenue of monkey puzzle trees. Logan Botanic Garden sits 13 miles south of the town and is home to exotic ferns and palms and boasts a beautiful walled garden.

The area is steeped in history and the landscape diverse, a haven for artists, birdwatchers and walkers. Portpatrick, 8 miles, lies at the start of the Southern Upland Way, one of Scotland’s acclaimed long distance footpaths, covering 212 miles to Cockburnspath on the east coast. The Mull of Galloway with its grass roofed visitor centre is Scotland’s most southerly point with amazing views of Ireland, England, Isle of Man and Scotland. Lucky visitors may spot seals and minke whales and will most certainly see a host of seabirds. Take the high speed ferry to Ireland for a spot of sightseeing or a shopping trip to Belfast. Ideal for customers looking to make the most of the kitchen, there is a large supermarket just 500 yards away. Let the children run and play in nearby Stair Park, just a short walk away, recently refurbished so that all facilities are adapted for use by children with disabilities including toilets and changing block. Pony trekking is available locally. Beach 500 yards. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

This was the best property we've ever stayed in for a family weekend away. The place was spotless, there was everything we could possibly have needed and more. Maureen couldn't have been more helpful and we will def recommend this cottage to others as well as use it again.

we stayed at Kinvara to celebrate a 50th, 60th, 70th & ruby wedding anniversary & we could not have picked a better cottage. Maureen, the owner, puts her heart & soul into ensuring that you have a good stay & is very generous with her welcome pack... thank you xx You want for nothing, as everything is provided, including fuel for the open fire. The cottage is in an ideal situation for touring the area, which has many beautiful / historical places to visit. An added bonus was that the cottage is disable friendly. A great time was had by all, thank you once again Maureen xx

Kinvara is a first class holiday home the best equipped that we have stayed in to date. The house was perfect for our family of 11, 6 adults and 5 children. We were warmly greeted by Maureen who had an inviting coal fire lit for our arrival. She also provided a most generous welcome pack which was appreciated by everyone, even the carrots to feed the horses! We all enjoyed the hot tub and the children loved the freedom the secure garden provided for them - they also loved the lights at night. The games room was also popular as was the super playpark a few minutes from the house. The close proximity of the Cairnryan Ferry Terminal provided us with the opportunity to spend the day in Belfast and visit the Titanic Exhibition - great experience! Thanks for an enjoyable week Maureen, we would certainly recommend Kinvara for a holiday.
