The Garden Cottage is a great base for a holiday on the Isle of Skye, perfect for a short break or a week. The owners are members of the Association of Scottish Self-Caterers and you can be assured of a great holiday. Situated on the outskirts of Portree, The Garden Cottage is only half a mile to the centre of town with its attractive harbour, characterful streets and numerous restaurants and hotels and food outlets. There is use of an electric vehicle charge point at the property for guests with hybrid or EV’s at cost price. Being on the edge of Portree and set in the mature gardens of Kiltaraglen House gives enviable views to the Cuillins and of the surrounding Scottish moorland hills, typical of northern Skye. The best of both worlds, and an ideal base for relaxing after exploring the island. Portree is centrally located on Skye and a great starting point to explore the various ‘wings’ of the island. Only five minutes from the Old Man of Storr and fifteen from the Kilt Rock, Mealt Falls and on to the Quirang and the other highlights of the Trotternish peninsula. That’s just for starters, to the west you have the joys of the Waternish, Duirinish and Minginish peninsulas to explore too, each with their own charm and all with fabulous views.
Blessed with superb fine dining, gourmets can choose from The Three Chimneys, Edinbane Inn, Lochbay Seafood restaurant, Kinloch Lodge and a multitude of wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and cafés Skye has several renowned distilleries; Talisker perhaps the best known. The Fairy Pools are close to Carbost and the distillery and visiting them edges you into the Cuillin Mountains. The Cuillin are only nine miles south of Portree, and are often visible from the town and the gardens at Kiltaraglen. There are countless routes to be walked and climbed throughout the island, some well-known others peaceful gems. A highlight that many don’t make time for is a trip to Loch Coruisk hidden away in the heart of the Black Cuillin. You can walk to the loch, but it’s a long and arduous journey. Better to drive to Elgol in the south of the island and take a boat into the mountains. It’s a magical, misty tour! The south of the island is very different to the north, but still worth exploring. Elgol is picture perfect, and beyond the mountains the Garden of Skye; the Sleat Peninsula awaits with its crofting settlements and hidden beaches. The Garden Cottage is truly the ideal base for a Skye holiday. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
The Garden Cottage can be booked together with The Garden Wing (UK32204) and Holly View Annexe (UK32205) to accommodate up to 8 guest.

Outstanding! A very cosy and comfortable cottage a ten minute walk from the centre of Portree, which had the benefit of everything we needed after full on days exploring Skye. Coming back to Garden Cottage was always a pleasant and welcome experience. Pamela is a great host and made us feel very welcome on arrival. Kevin looks after the lovely and large secluded garden which is a great space to sit out in and enjoy a glass of wine if the weather allows. Top tip: before arrival Pamela sends guests a very useful and comprehensive guide to Skye including details of Restaurants in Portree and around the Island. I recommend booking tables in advance of arrival, we stayed the last week in September and the popular restaurants were either fully booked or had long queues outside their doors in Portree. In the high season without bookings I suspect it would be nigh on impossible to get a table in the more desirable eateries. In conclusion, I would recommend Garden Cottage unreservedly and hope to return.

The Garden Cottage is in such a good location for exploring Skye and for easy access to Portree and all its facilities. Lovely friendly welcome from our host Pamela who also helped point out local places to visit. We were blessed with good weather and so we enjoyed going on lots of walks. The cottage was well equipped and would recommend to others.

Very good cottage in a great location, a short walk from Portree. The cottage is tastefully furnished to a high standard. The bedding towels and kitchen utensils are also of a very high standard. The dining area in the kitchen is a bit “snug” and 4 adults would I feel be cramped when eating but the quality of the cottage, location and spectacular views more than make up! We are planning to go again!
