Description

Set on the beautiful Kildalloig Estate on The Mull of Kintyre, Fisherman’s Cottage offers magnificent coastal walks.

These two seaside cottages, Fisherman’s Cottage and New Orleans (refs SBW and SRRL) are located on Kildalloig Estate on The Mull of Kintyre. Kildalloig is a working hill farm and native luing cattle and blackface sheep can be seen grazing on the hills. Set against the rugged beauty of the sea and the wild landscape of the Kintyre Peninsula, these holiday cottages provide an idyllic sanctuary, offering modern amenities and historic coastal charm. Surrounded by natural beauty and sea views, each cottage is comfortably furnished, provides wonderful character and history, and has been thoughtfully arranged to accommodate couples, honeymooners, families, golfers, hikers, birdwatchers and other visitors. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too. There are wonderful stretches of secluded beach and coastal walks with coves and rock pools, and the fascinating little island of Davaar with its lighthouse, cave painting and wild goats which can be reached on foot at low tide. There are marvellous walks along the coast and through woodland on the estate, where seals, otters and a variety of birds can be seen, and in the hills, where golden eagles soar.

The cottages provide the classic Scottish seaside holiday spot with an abundant number of rocky and sandy beaches close by and pristine sandy beaches within 5-15 minutes’ drive. Activities locally include surfing, sea fishing, pony trekking and mountain biking. The cottages are ideally placed for island hopping to Gigha, Islay and Arran with ferries within 45 minutes’ away. Kintyre is home to 5 golf courses, the most famous is the championship course at Machrihanish with its stunning and infamous first hole and 3 miles of award-winning sandy beach. There are a further two 18-hole golf courses, Southend and Machrihanish Dune, and two excellent 9-hole courses in Carradale and Tarbert. Campbeltown,3 miles, has supermarkets, shops, and restaurants. There is a modern leisure centre with large infinity swimming pool, fitness suite including gym and weights, and relaxation suite (steam room and sauna). There are also conference facilities and a library with free high speed Wi-Fi.

In the Victorian Age, Campbeltown was known as the whisky capital of the world and had over 30 whisky distilleries. Today only two survive, Glen Scotia and Springbank. Whisky tours with tasting are available most days and the associated whisky shop, Eaglesomes, has a large variety of old and new whiskies for sale. Further attractions in Campbeltown include the busy little harbour with fishing boats, yacht marina and a large quay for ships loading timber and wind turbine towers produced locally. There is also a ferry terminal with a ferry that runs to Ardrossan on the Ayrshire Coast during the summer months. Other noteworthy attractions are the Campbeltown Cross, the quaint Art Deco cinema ’The Wee Picture House’ which shows a variety of new and old films most days. There is also a museum and the Linda McCartney memorial garden, and the Campbeltown Pottery where a demonstration of traditional hand throwing can be seen and commissions can be ordered. A visit to The Mull Lighthouse, which is a 5-mile drive away, is a must, likewise a visit to The Muneroy Tearoom at Southend, renowned for its delicious soup with homemade rolls and home baking. Fishing available nearby. Shops and pubs 3 miles.

Set right next to a secluded beach, Fisherman’s Cottage is wonderfully romantic and private. This cosy single-storey cottage enjoys a very picturesque and peaceful setting with spectacular views over the Kilbrannan Sound to Arran and the Island of Davaar. Steeped in history, this cottage was the home of a local fisherman until the 1970’s, and retains many of its original features including the original fire place and pulley in the sitting room, and the original boat winch and tar boiler in the grounds. With wonderful sea views and complete privacy, this is the perfect place for a romantic break, honeymoon or simply to get away from it all.

The cottage was very comfortable with lot's of peace and quiet. The weather was awful and there isn't a lot to do in the area if the weather is bad. The WiFi connected after the first couple of days.
