We stayed in Crooklets for a week in September 2021. The property is one of a number of properties at Kennacott Court, which is very conveniently located just off the A39, about a mile from Widemouth Bay and a couple of miles from Bude. The Kennacott Court website shows plenty of good quality photos of and information about the properties so potential holidaymakers should know before they arrive what they are likely to get. Here's a review of what we experienced: Arrival: Amara, the duty staff member was very easy to contact on her mobile (number provided in the pre-arrival email instructions) when we arrived and was very friendly, welcoming & efficient at that time and also on one or two other occasions during our stay. She explained the facilities on offer, including that the swimming pool is still undergoing refurbishment. Two sets of keys were provided. There is one Crooklets parking space adjacent to the property, allocated in the parking area. Crooklets: This is a three bedroom semi-detached cottage, with seperate living room, kitchen, shower room / toilet & bathroom / toilet. There is one double and two twin bedrooms. The rooms are a decent size with a wardrobe and bedside tables. Although the furniture is pretty basic it is adequate and we found the beds comfortable and long enough to cater for the taller members of our party. A hair dryer, ironing board (we never looked for the iron) and good quaity washer / dryer are provided. In the kitchen there is a microwave, good quality dishwasher and a basic but resaonable supply of crockery & eating / cooking utensils. There is a decent long handle broom for sweeping up and a dustpan & brush that is broken (therefore useless) and needs replacing. The fridge freezer is a decent size. The living / dining room has a six seater pine table & chairs set and old fashioned but pretty comfy two three seater sofas, plus a fair sized Sony TV (basic channel selection) with DVD / video player. There is a large selection of DVDs and videos (remember them?) in the sports hall. There is an efficient electric heater to warm the room if needed. At Crooklets there is a conservatory with two armchairs, a two seater sofa and a single wicker chair. The sofa and chairs look and feel like they have been around for a very long while so don't expect to lounge around in luxurious comfort in the conservatory. Suitable for occasional use only we felt. A picnic table, sagging on one side, is provided outside. Facilities: There is a wide range of facilities on offer including a sports hall with badminton court, both pool & snooker tables & a table tennis table too. Equipment needed to use all of these is provided. Note that the table tennis bats are pretty worn so if you're a keen player bring your own. There is a basketball hoop outside with a ball. There are two tennis courts adjacent to the sports hall. Rackets and balls are provide but these are very well used and worn so as per the table tennis bring your own kit if you're keen. The biggest problem with the courts is the very poor condition of the surface, which is very pitted, crumbly & mossy in many places, resulting in some very 'interesting' bounces! Despite this we (keen tennis players) made the best of this and had some enjoyable games. I imagine the courts have been there for many years and would require a considerable investment to renew. The six hole golf course is in a seperate area next to the development. Its really a huge field with six holes laid out with areas of deep rough and bordered by long grass and trees. The fairways are not too bad but the greens are not going to deliver a smooth putting experience, however expert you are, so manage your expectations on this one! There is a mixed bag (literally) of clubs, balls & tees on free loan, so just ask the duty staff member. Beware the rough areas and trees / bushes on the course - if your ball disappears into any of these you're unlikely to find it! If you're a keen golfer don't expect a course to rival the one you're used to - just go with the flow and have fun. In terms of other facilities there is a kids room, especially useful when the weather is wet I should imagine. To sum up: When you drive into the main entrance of Kennacott Court you will see that the word 'luxury' is used on the sign. It may have been luxury some time ago, but it isn't now, so don't go there expecting proper luxury accommodation. What you'll get is a very well located property with firendly, helpful staff and comfortable enough, if rather dated accommodation and a good range of facilities that can enhance your stay, particularly when the weather is poor - just don't expect too much of the tennis courts and the golf course. We never saw the swimming pool so cannot comment on that. All in all Kennacott Court looks like it needs some financial investment before too long if it is to keep up with its competitors in the years to come, particularly when overseas holidays come properly back on-stream again. Helped by some great weather we had a great time in Cornwall and would guardedly recommend Kennacott Court, provided your expectations are relatively modest. The website does a good job of showing the properties so make sure to check it out thoroughly.
