Description

Enjoy the peace and tranquility at this holiday property, located in the heart of Highland Perthshire.

Escape to these splendid holiday cottages in a peaceful elevated rural setting with wonderful views over open countryside and the hills beyond.

The Knock (ref SSAU), a peaceful cosy retreat for two, is the gable end of a traditional farm steading, private with its own access, large garden and splendid view of the surrounding hills and countryside. It has a spacious comfortable living room perfect for curling up with a book and relaxing or planning your activities for the next day.
The Steading (ref SSAV) is an original farm steading dating back to the 1800s and has now been sympathetically renovated and modernised, yet maintaining much of the original character. Set on the side of a hill you have a panoramic view of the stunning scenery including the Balachroich wild flower meadow. This is the perfect location for friends and family to spend time together with ample space for all. You can practice your cooking skills in the large kitchen, and the dining room table is large enough for the whole party to enjoy dinner together and then retire to the living room with vaulted ceiling, cosy wood burner and a great southerly view. With so much to do in the surrounding area, if you have any energy left you can round off you day with a game of pool in the games room and then if you’re staying in The Steading (ref SSAV) sink into your private hot tub.

A perfect all year round location with activities to suit all tastes, and a great clear sky location, to admire the stars at night. From the front door there are tracks and hills to explore on foot or bike. For the more adventurous there are mountains to climb with a great selection of Munros, such as Schiehallion and Ben Lawers within easy reach. The River Tay is near and is well-known for kayaking, river rafting and great fishing (permits are available in season and lessons can be arranged in the nearby estates). Horse riding 3 miles. You are close to the conservation village of Fortingall with a 5000 year old Yew tree, and the historic town of Aberfeldy with many local attractions including a park, local galleries, shops, cafés and restaurants, cinema and a distillery. Several excellent local golf courses are within a short drive including Aberfeldy, Strathtay and Taymouth Castle and some of Scotlands most famous beauty spot Glen Lyon, The Falls of Dochart, Kenmore on Loch Tay, The Queen’s View at Loch Tummel and the Pass of Killiecrankie. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Three steps to entrance. Four steps down to open-plan living/dining room with kitchen area and open views. Utility. Bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, toilet and sloping ceiling. Four steps up to double bedroom with 6ft zip and link bed (can be twin on request) and open views.

The Knock is well equiped and the 'welcome pack ' had fresh bread, milk, jams, eggs, coffee pods and shortbread. there was also coffee/tea/and sugar provided. Although the adjoining property was occupied (which was an initial concern before we went) we had no problem with any disturbance. We had two young red dear bounding around the grass back garden on the first day who then jumped over the fence and ran to the nearby woods. Also couple of rabbits and some birds on the feeders (although we would suggest taking some bird seed with you!). Just note that there is now no longer a hot tub at the Knock. All in all we had a good relaxing week in Scotland

Me & my boyfriend went away for a weekend break and had a brilliant time. Cottage had everything that was needed and was very homely. The hot tub made it even better. The only downside was no outside light working for the hot tub. Would definitely visit again in the future

Lovely little cottage nestled in the hills. Had everything we could have needed and the hot tub is lovely. There were parents with very young babies staying next door but we didn’t even hear them. The only down side was that the bed is extremely soft, which wasn’t great for my partner as he suffers with a bad back.

Lovely private location. We stayed when it first opened and were delighted. However it has now become in need of refurbishment and is looking tired. No fluffy bathrobes this time which you need when getting out of the hot tub in cold weather. Skylight windows were filthy, and living room windows had lots of dead flies around it. The only aluminium foil was on the grill in the oven so we had to use that for our joint and it looked used. No wine in the welcome pack this time. Next door had a group of young people with no consideration for us as a middle aged couple looking for somewhere peaceful. Loud talking, girls giggling late at night and first thing in the morning. We came for peace and quiet. Welcome pack is some milk, coffee pods and some home made bread. Chase longue is wooden, fine for kids to sit on but not adults. Size fine for two adults. Dishwasher is very good and requires no pre-soaking. Potato peeler is a bit blunt. Frying pan ok but only one. No smaller pan if you are doing a fry up. Bathroom has a heated towel rail which was great but no under-floor heating. Shower pressure varies and you can't take the shower head off. Hob is halogen and fine. Positioning of fire blanket and extinguisher a bit dodgy right next to oven and difficult should something catch on cooker. Bistro set which we were looking forward to using sitting outside with wine was thrown in a heap in the top right hand corner of the garden area. Looked in need of some varnish. Nice views from the bedroom and living room. Whirly gig is over a fence in a field of longish grass which would risk ticks. The steep path driving up from the road is a wreck and if you have a low slung undercarriage then you risk damage to your vehicle. Very stoney and potholes with the centre of the path raised. Not good for our Focus. They need to fill it in a bit. Would be treacherous in very bad weather. You could feel the stones flying off underneath tyres as we went up in first gear. Lovely private location and good place for a young couple on their first getaway, especially with the hot tub. However not value for money any more. Handle missing off the bath and tv wasn't much better than terrestrial plus a couple of channels. Wifi but we never got an internet signal and had to use mobile data. Enjoyed it the first time but think we'd stay in Weem next time. Same nice views and nearer the hotel and easier to get the car to.
