Hayling Island is a popular seaside town which appeals to all ages. It combines all the attractions of a traditional coastal holiday with excellent sporting facilities. Windsurfing was invented on Hayling Island, and it is also renowned for its great sailing and nautical activity including kayaking, power boating, jet ski-ing, kitesurfing and water boarding. Windsurfing and paddle board lessons are available in the town. There are miles of unspoilt coastline and countryside to explore which offer a haven of peace and tranquillity for walks and cycle rides. The seashore is about five miles long and offers places for swimming, sunbathing, beach volleyball and picknicking. Hayling Island has an amusement park which opened in the 1930’s and still attracts many visitors today, and holiday centres which have indoor pools and leisure facilities, many of which are open to visitors. Pitch and Putt, the coastal train and amusements for all ages can be found along the seafront. Seacourt Tennis Club is also close by. Activities available also include golf, horse riding, boat trips and scenic walks along the water’s edge or along the South Downs National Park, which are within easy reach.
Chichester, with its beautiful cathedral, festival theatre, pedestrianised shopping, leisure centre, Roman Villa and Goodwood or Fontwell races, is definitely worthy of a visit. Visit Portsmouth with waterside dining, ferry trips to the Isle of Wight, designer outlets, Natural History Museum, leisure facilities, Spinnaker Tower and the HMS Victory. Winchester, with its cathedral and abbey, and The New Forest National Park are within easy driving distance. Plenty of National Trust homes and gardens can also be discovered nearby. The area offers a rich military history, and there are fascinating World War II Heritage Trails which take in many significant historic landmarks, such as Mulberry Harbour and its pillboxes, and The Hayling Billy Trail, along the former railway to visit the COPP memorial along the seafront.
