William’s Hide is a quirky shepherd’s hut on the edge of the market town of Haltwhistle in Northumberland and is a unique and charming accommodation option for visitors to the area. Set within the grounds of the owner’s home, the hut is accessed via four steps leading up to a stable door, which opens into an open plan studio layout. The hut is perfect for a couple or a small group of friends and is equipped with a triple bunk bed, compact kitchen area, TV, seating, and a wood burner to keep you warm on chilly evenings. The shepherd’s hut has rustic touches and a cosy atmosphere. Outside, there is a decked area where you can sit and enjoy a relaxing drink or al fresco meal.
The town of Haltwhistle itself is just a short walk away and boasts a range of attractions for visitors to enjoy. There are several traditional pubs, a great cocktail bar and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine, as well as a range of shops and amenities. The town is also home to several historical sites, including Hadrian’s Wall and the Roman forts that line its path. There is an excellent leisure centre with heated open air swimming pool and cycle hire in the town, with pony trekking nearby. A regular train and bus service run from the town to Newcastle, The Metro Centre and Carlisle, meaning that you can leave the car behind. Hadrian’s Wall is a must-see attraction for visitors to the area. This ancient Roman wall is over 70 miles long and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the many forts and archaeological sites along the wall, including Vindolanda, Housesteads, and Chesters. These sites offer a fascinating insight into life on the frontier of the Roman Empire and are a great way to spend a day exploring the area. For those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, the Northumberland National Park is just a short drive away with great walks, cycling routes and wildlife.
