Place was very nice butthoughtfurniture in lounge could do with updating . Conservatory was very hot due to the lovely weather so we could not use it also it made indoors very hot. Lovely views from outside . Good base to look around that part of Essex.

Great holiday for our 2 dogs. Can walk from the cottage a few yards to the estuary. Only problem that you sink into the sand/mud at low tide so have to keep the dogs away from the beach at these times. Was a very quiet and peaceful location and cottage was clean and well equipped. Nearest proper beach Jaywick Sands with beautiful beach. Only a 15 minutes drive away. It was quiet when we were there, early July, also. A good place for a peaceful holiday with the dogs.

We did not use the property as a holiday accommodation as such, it was used as a convenient place to stay while we are attending a special event. (As this was a one-off this is the reason we do not intend to return). We also visited friends and relatives while we were in the area. It was particularly useful because we have a small dog and it's quite difficult to find places that will accept them. It has a pleasant outlook at the back of the house where you can watch sailing boats going back and forth. The property is spacious with plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen and especially the front bedroom. The bathroom has a shower which has a decent flow, especially for an electric one. At the rear of the house there is a wide conservatory that doubles as the dining room with pleasant views as you're eating. However there were a few niggles. Even with the brightness turn to maximum the flatscreen TV has a dark picture. The conservatory at the back has only one working opening window, the other one has a note on it that is not be used, it gets extremely hot in there when the sun shines in a short space of time. DO NOT, whatever you do, contemplate leaving a dog in their with the door shut, even with the window open! I could not get in through the front door, I could only get out. If the side door was locked and went out through the unlocked front door but left the keys inside you would not be able to back into the house. Apart from these issues I would recommend the place as it is very clean and spacious with a wide selection of DVDs to entertain adults and children if the weather is not behaving itself in. There is also good-sized strip of grass across the back for children to play on.

The property was well equipped, clean and tidy if a little dated. The views over the estuary were lovely and changed on a daily basis with various sea craft passing by. The visitors book said you could swim in the estuary but I certainly wouldn't want to. It was muddy and stank of seaweed. However, the beach is well worth a visit when the tide is out as there were lots of different types of seabirds to see. Unfortunately, that's where it ended for us. The beds were comfortable but same can't be said about the chairs in the living room. The sofa was ok but the armchairs are the most uncomfortable chairs we have sat on. I find it hard to believe that not one person has mentioned the very noisy road at the front of the property. The road is made of concrete slabs, the same you find on motorways with enhanced tyre noise to match. Every time a car went over the joins there was a bump, bump. The road led down to a large caravan park approximately 50m down the road so the noise was constant. The rear garden was split in two by a public footpath so there was no privacy when sitting at the table in the garden as people were walking past constantly. It was really annoying to be woken by people stopping to talk about Fido early in the morning. The last straw was a group of young girls screeching at the top of their voices (probably on the beach) in the early hours of the Thursday morning. We came home a day early and won't be staying again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for the feedback on your stay at 'Hicliffe'. We are pleased that you found the bungalow to be clean and well equipped and that you enjoyed the stunning ever changing sea views. Our cleaner/ key holder always makes a special effort to prepare the bungalow for our guests. We are sorry to read that some other things were not to your liking; The leather armchairs are a modern Ikea design and we have never had any comment on them before. As for the road, it is shielded from the bungalow by a thick hedge, The bungalow has double glazing and furthermore the master bedroom is on the opposite side of the building. The nearness of the property to the beach and the coastal path is a plus factor for most of our guests although it clearly did not suit you. Once again thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us.

The bungalow is in an idyllic location right on the river estuary (which is tidal). The neighbours are really nice and the lady who looks after the property is really lovely. The property would benefit from some updating - the locks on the doors and the conservatory are quite old now and the furniture in the living room is adequate but not really comfortable. The location more than makes up for any shortcomings though and we would definitely rebook

We had a fantastic time. So peaceful and warm. It is a dog walkers paradise. Home from home. There was everything there you could need. The photographs on the website do not do it justice. We have booked for March next year. That says it all.

There was 6 people and 1 dog. We had a great time looking out over the sea while have our meals was lovely. Would go back. Only one small detail was the mattress on the double bed and the back bedroom was a little uncomfortable but did not spoil our holiday.
