House on the Hill is a delightful, first floor apartment in a Victorian building above a ladies clothes shop in the heart of the market town of Framlingham. Overlooking the quiet market square, you are in the centre of this ever popular Suffolk town, which was made famous by the Ed Sheeran song, ’Castle on the Hill’.
Visitors to Framlingham can enjoy the many pubs, restaurants, independent shops and cafés right on the doorstep. This historic market town was once voted as ’one of the most desirable places to live’, as featured in the Country Life magazine, and with a perfect blend of culture, history and stunning architecture, it is easy to understand why.
There are many excellent network of walks and cycle routes meandering through the pretty Suffolk villages, both country and coastal. The National Trust owned Sutton Hoo is only a 20-minute drive away, and the nearby Dunwich Heath is within 25 minutes. A 25-minute drive away is the port of Felixstowe and its beaches with the passenger foot and bike ferry leaving from Landguard Fort to historic Harwich and Shotley. Suffolk boasts many country estates for visiting including, Helmingham Hall, Crows Hall and Hevingham Hall. Nearby is Snape Maltings which is famous for being Benjamin Britten’s concert hall, and only 30 minutes car drive is the seaside town of Aldeburgh. Also worth a visit is Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge and the RSPB Nature Reserve at Minsmere, and approximately 35 minutes away is the coastal town of Southwold and the village of Walberswick.
The Latitude Festival is 30 minutes car drive away and is held annually at Henham Park, while the Constable Country villages of Dedham and East Bergholt are about 35 minutes drive. The towns of Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Colchester are all within easy reach for a great day out. Close by you can visit Framlingham Castle - the famous ‘Castle on the Hill’, Shawsgate Vineyard, Bruisyard and Helmingham Hall, along with Easton Farm Park. The coast is a short drive away, a stretch of Heritage Coastline where cycling, hiking and simply taking in the views is the perfect way to slow down and relax. Beach 14 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

    We recently stayed for one week at the beginning of January this year. There were 2 adults and 2 older children and we comfortable fit in the property. Although in an original building facing the village square, the property has been fully refurbished with a modern bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen includes some quality brand appliances - washing machine, microwave etc - and many well kept utensils. Everything was very clean and kept to a high standard, including linen and towels provided. The central heating in the property works very well and although we stayed in winter, the property was cosy and very comfortable. The host also left some really thoughtful items to begin our stay such as milk and fruit, which we appreciated. Also the host is readily available for questions and lives nearby so is more than happy to offer local advice; there are many books, brochures and reading material for the local area, as well as some board games. Framlingham is a delightful village and although small, there is a supermarket a few steps away that is open every day. The added bonus of a carpark was valuable as parking is premium in the centre of the village. The property is convenient to the town square and an easy walk to the castle and nearby church, however even for the central location the property is quiet. This is probably helped by the retro-fitted double glazing. The property is entered through a back entrance and one flight of stairs - and the stairs can be a little slippery in the wet (this may be a consideration if stairs are an issue). However the carpark is very close to the back entry and this made it easier to move luggage from the car to the property. As the property has a policy of 'no shoes', the carpet is in pristine condition and it feels homely. We ate at two of the local pubs, both were great meals. The Railway Inn has an excellent roast on Sundays and probably one of the best roast beef and yorkshire puddings we have had! We would definitely stay at this property again and enjoy the relaxing village lifestyle. We have visited Framlingham previously and this was by far our favourite accommodation. Thank you to our host for a fantastic stay.

    Lovely well-equipped flat with local amenities on the doorstep in delightful market town. Good base for exploring Suffolk, both coast and countryside.
