Welcome to the House of Logs, a detached Norwegian-built log house in the peaceful setting of Totland Bay. The house provides a comfortable haven for its guests, whilst the garden is a magnet for wildlife, including red squirrels and badgers (appropriate food is provided). There are glimpses of the Solent and the mainland from the terrace at the front of the house and from some of the first floor rooms. This holiday house is built on a sloping site and most of the accommodation is on the first floor. Opposite the house is the coastal path which runs through Headon Warren, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, to Alum Bay and the Needles, and across to Tennyson Down. The nearest beach is Widdick Chine, which is a short walk away, but there are steps! Totland beach is a little further and is a flat walk with a sandy beach, ideal for bathing. Where possible, local or British products have been used to furnish the house. The wrought iron beds are from the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company of Norfolk; Welsh wool blankets have been sourced to make cosy additions to bedding. All the mattresses, sofas, dining furniture and kitchen cabinets are made in England. Original works of art adorn many of the walls. As much re-cycling as possible has been employed, but rest assured that everything is smart, clean and works! The House of Logs is unique. Headon Warren includes bronze age burial mounds, quarries, Hatherwood Battery built in the 1860s, along with precious wildlife, such as Dartford warblers, the small copper butterfly and several unusual insects. The views from the Warren across to the mainland are wonderful. The whole area is an idyllic setting for walking enthusiasts. When you reach the end of Headon Warren, Alum Bay can be seen and a spectacular view of the Needles. Beach 500 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Ten steps to entrance. First floor: Living/dining room with multi-fuel burner, wooden floor, rounded log walls and ceiling, and double doors to decked balcony. Kitchen. Double bedroom with 5ft bed and garden view. Twin bedroom. Bunk bedroom with view of the Solent. Bathroom with over-bath shower, shower cubicle and toilet. Ground floor: Utility area. Double bedroom with 5ft bed and French windows to terrace. Shower room (no toilet). Separate toilet.

    Really lovely cottage in a great location. Everything you could need was there, and the little touches (i.e. Cake, tea and some milk on arrival) were really appreciated. I enjoyed being able to sit out on the balcony for breakfast and it was so close to the sea. I can't recommend the cottage enough and would definitely go back.

    The house of logs is lovely, very well presented and had the 'wow' factor and some lovely personal touches, scones, cream, jam and strawberries awaited us :-) along with some fantastic towel origami! We were particularly drawn to the fact that it had an upstairs balcony leading off the dining room which was totally child friendly and the garden was totally enclosed. The property was perfect for a family with its open plan living areas. The cottage was located in a residential area of houses of equally substantial sizing, and even though the 'house of logs' is a rental property it was evident that the other local properties were not, as one evening we received a phone call from the housekeeper that a local resident had phoned and complained about the 'noise of children playing in the garden'! Our party of 8 consisted of two families with 3 children under the age of 8. We were taken aback by this comment a little given that we'd only played outside the once for an hour and it certainly put a dampener on our stay. So even thought this is a stunning property and well serviced, it would perhaps be more suitable to quiet families without children.
