Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Located in the valley of the River Ruel, Dairy Cottage offers free trout and salmon fishing from the river.

"Surrounded by 150 acres of glorious wooded grounds, abundant in wildlife. . ."

Amidst a glorious landscape of unspoilt wooded glens, fragmented coastline, stunning sea lochs and breathtaking bays, the delightful cottages at Home Farm nestle in the peaceful wooded valley of the River Ruel. The steading and cottages, formerly the home farm to the estate, have been lovingly restored and are very comfortably furnished in contemporary Scottish style.

Their spacious courtyard setting affords each of them a sense of privacy and they all boast access to 150 acres of wooded grounds, abundant in bird and wildlife, with free trout and salmon fishing on the Ruel beat owned by Home Farms - the fishing hut provides an ideal picnic spot. One of the most admired views in Scotland, The Kyles of Bute, awaits discovery just 6 miles away, as do the tranquil village of Tighnabruaich’s lovely natural bays, sandy beach, shops, restaurants and 9 hole golf course. Colintraive (9 miles) offers a pub serving good food and there is a summer shop (limited opening hours) adjacent to Home Farm. Beach 5 miles. Shop 13 miles, pub and restaurant 7 miles.

Open plan, spacious living/dining room with wood-burning stove and kitchen area with wooden floor. Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

We were all very taken with the cottage, so much so that our son told us just a few hours after returning home that he missed the cottage already and wanted to go back ! The cottage and surrounding area were ideal and gave us the comfort and tranquility that we all needed. A beautiful 5 day break which had the right balance of interesting places to explore and a place to get away from it all and completely relax. We are already thinking about when we could return for a further holiday. We loved the place. The Morsley Family

The cottage was just lovely, it was very clean with everything you could possibly need for a nice stay and the owners and caretakers were all very friendly, it was a great break.

Had a very peaceful break with my husband, first trip away without the kids...bliss! Great walks on doorstep and stunning coasts/forests only a short drive away. The cottage had everything we needed apart from full size dinner plates (unfortunately we found the crockery far too small for standard adult portions having to use more than one plate to serve up) Everything was clean upon arrival but we did not realise it was pet friendly upon booking and found we could smell dog in certain areas. Bed was very comfy and combined with the tranquil setting we slept well. Overall we found this to be a cozy wee cottage perfect for a peaceful getaway.

Lovely place, great scenery, diversion a pain, added 7 miles to each journey, only thing we consistently moaned about was the weakness of the wifi signal, otherwise a wonderful cottage and wonderful holiday!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your review. We are pleased to note that the diversion has now been lifted. With regards to the Wi-Fi, due to our rural location there may intermittently be some slow up of speed, however the majority of the time the speed is adequate for our guests.

This is a lovely cottage and we really enjoyed our time there. A very comfortable and well equipped cottage. I have said we would not use this cottage again because of accessibility. I have limited mobility and find steps and stairs difficult. The front door has a very deep step. If there had been a hand rail I would have managed better but I did find it difficult and needed assistance to enter the cottage. We would return to one of the other cottages on the site that did not have this issue. The site managers Neil and Linda were welcoming and helpful. A relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review and we have noted the position in relation to the front step at Dairy Cottage. We are considering options here to facilitate the installation of a handrail.

One of the best holidays we had! Very nice spot with many must visits near by (e.g. Ilse of Bude, Rothesay, Mount Stuart, Tighnabruaich, Lachlan Castle).
