We enjoyed a month in this lovely cottage. We were in between properties, and Milburn cottage had all what we needed and lots of room to keep all the things we carried with us, including a road bike. It has an unusual layout; but in our opinion the amazing views of the hills and the countryside that you can enjoy from the dining room and lounge compensate for it. If you like star gazing, this is the place, is completely dark at night! It is important to take into account that the cottage is in the middle of a working farm, and the closest shop and dining places are several miles away. I would suggest to get your supplies before you arrive. The Coop in Rothbury opens early and closes late. And a new SPAR is going to be open in Thropton. The decoration is simple, but suited to the cottage. The beds are very comfortable! Some of the things to take note: the entrance to the large shower room is through the utility room. The hot water is a bit of a hit and miss. We had some hiccups with the water supply due to a broken pump, but the staff was quick to provide bottled drinking water and recycled water for other uses.

Milburn Cottage is a roomy and comfortable cottage situated in a beautiful location and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our holiday stay there. Generally speaking the property was very clean but there were a few minor things like the smaller tables in the nest of tables hadn’t been wiped clean, the oven shelves had a lot of baked on spills and the baking tray I needed to use had been put away unwashed. Little considerations like liquid soap & a small hand towel for downstairs use would have been appreciated & a replacement kitchen bin liner. We were blessed by a surprise chocolate cake that had been left for us.
