Description

Set in a quiet location, it’s easy to explore the beauty of the Axe Valley and the Jurassic Coast from these properties.

A short distance from Lyme Regis and the pretty seaside villages of Beer and Branscombe. Only 2 miles from the sea, and nestling in the fold of a valley on the edge of Holyford Woods, these two holiday cottages are set in a very peaceful location within the grounds of the owners’ home, a Grade II listed farmhouse. The oldest part of the property, dating back to the late 15th century, is Crispin Cottage. Attached to the owners’ home, this east wing has a wealth of oak panelling, beams and other period features. The Stables forms the majority part of a converted Victorian coach house and is located opposite the farmhouse. The local woodland has an abundance of wildlife and offers some wonderful country walks literally on the doorstep. The historic town of Colyton, with the River Coly flowing through it, is a mile or so away. It has a variety of local shops, tea rooms and pubs, all offering good food. Nearby attractions include Seaton’s Tramway, the fishing village of Beer and its famous caves, the beach at Branscombe, the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth and Crealy Adventure Park a little further towards Exeter. The city is just over 20 miles away. River Cottage HQ and its cafe in Axminster are both only 6 miles away, as is the seaside resort of Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb harbour. It has an area of sandy beach and offers a variety of water sports, as well as a large number of restaurants, tea rooms, pubs and exclusive gift shops. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Legendary generous welcome pack and hospitable owners . The Stables had efficient heaters, a log-burning stove and a generous supply of hot water. Natures reserve and woodland on he doorstep so of particular advantage to dog owners and walkers. Colyton the nearest small town is attractive; it has grocery shops, a post office etc. On the edge of Colyton, the famous electric tramway to Seaton.

Set in beautiful countryside the stables is a fantastic tranquil base to explore the area , we took our dogs and mountain bikes and there are endless walkes/rides in woods, hills, coastal paths, rivers , the beautiful villages of beer and branscombe are close bye , the stables itself was excellent , lovely welcome pack and a very relaxing home from home base , highly recommend this cottage , my only coplaint is not about the stables but once again families are the only ones penalised by having to pay the excessive prices charged in the school holidays

Beautiful location and hosts Mike and Jane were charming and helpful. The welcome basket was a lovely touch.....i may forgive my husband saying that Jane's scones were better than mine!!! Cottage very simply furnished but very comfy beds. Great walks from the cottage.....loved going up to the woods.
