When we arrived the property felt damp and cold, there were several bulbs missing and the main bathroom shower door had come of it's rail on the leading edge. We reported these problems to the care taker/owner? Her reply was that the cleaner (what cleaner?) should have dealt with the lightbulbs. She came and fitted a couple but not all of them, saying she would get the problems looked at on the Monday. We were also told that we couldn't have any heating on as the boiler needed servicing although she did find an oil heater we could use which was very welcome! Nobody came to rectify any of the problems so we just soldiered on. That said the cottage was adequate and in a beautiful location it was quiet and peaceful and we were lucky enough to see a barn owl hunting in the field behind the cottage and several red kites, overall we enjoyed our holiday.

Fantastic value cottage for me and my friends. We had 8 of us stay. Owner was very sweet and baked us some cakes on arrival. You definitely need a car to get there but if you have it’s no problem to explore the area. The only thing I might suggest for improvement which isn’t essential is the sofa bed which was meant to sleep two of the guests wasn’t the most comfortable but I guess that’s expected with sofabeds. Other than that perfect. I’d definitely come again.

The Stables was geographically suited to our needs over Christmas, and provided fine - if basic - facilities. A good fire was welcome, since the central heating was a bit hit-and-miss, and it was noted that a couple of lamps were missing bulbs or simply didn't work at all. A broken loo seat cover was a shame (and could have been replaced quite quickly and at little cost to the landlord). A nice seasonal touch might have been the provision of a Christmas tree, or some festive lights, but these are relatively minor matters.

Filthy and freezing. Smell of musty damp. Thick dust behind beds. Husband got asthma. Daughter vomiting, although that could be coincidence. Found paracetamol loose lying around in her room. Fireplace doesnt heat up the whole place and thermostat locked away with no access. Every visitor will have different warmth needs and the weather isn't predictable. There were also no cleaning products under the kitchen sink.

On arrival we were met by the owner, who explained the cottage had been doubled booked so the current occupiers had to move in with her while we had our week there. Although she did explain a few things to us, it was very rushed as she told us she was having to stay at her friends because of the double booking. This led to a few problems with where we could find things, i.e.: rubbish, recycling, washing machine use. The cottage was lovely, but not very clean - I found hair in the shower and one of the kitchen drawer fronts fell off and hurt my husband's foot. The local shop and pub that were advertised as only a few minutes walk away, were boarded up and looked like they had been closed for a while! I'm not happy about that at all, as it was the reason we chose this location. Needless to say we actually left early!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: I would like to apologize for the cleanliness of the cottage not being up to our usual standard, this has now been rectified. The broken drawer has been repaired, hope your husband's foot has recovered. With regards the pub, we, the residents of the village, are in the process of raising funds to buy it as a Community Pub. I had hoped it would be open by this summer, but these things often take a little longer than planned!

If you want a peaceful and quiet environment then this is for you. No noise pollution or light pollution. Hens and Guinea fowl in the garden to watch and local birds everywhere. A really relaxing holiday. Wi-Fi reception great- phone signals a bit iffy.
