Within Dartmoor National Park, guests can enjoy strolling along the footpaths while listening to the birds singing.

Superb views over the surrounding hills and patchwork of fields can be enjoyed from this first floor holiday property, which is enviably located on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. Attached to the owners’ home, with which it shares a delightful garden with fantastic views and a wildlife pond brimming with water lilies, Hollyhocks serves as a tranquil base from which to enjoy a whole host of rural pastimes. The area is a haven for walkers, bird-watchers and nature lovers, with plenty of footpaths to explore. Locally, visit the restored water wheel at Bovey Tracey, take a trip on the steam train from Buckfastleigh to the market town of Totnes, and explore at leisure the many fine NT properties which stand proudly close by. For seaside attractions, Teignmouth and the English Riviera are within driving distance, while for excellent shopping journey to the naval town of Plymouth. Shop and pub 1¼ miles.

Access for the first visit of someone unfamilar with the narrow Devon lanes would be less traumatic if the directions took you from the A38 through Liverton and Ilsington, then a left turn to Portland Villa, followed by two right turns and a straight-on to reach Hollyhocks (labelled Foxgloves). All the lanes are extremely narrow, with very few passing places, so the above route minimises the distance from a 'proper' road. The cottage description on the website is a bit misleading as to the relative remoteness of the property. It does make it lovely and quiet, though.

We had a good holiday and were happy with the accommodation but the single track roads were problematic especially when it seemed we were the ones expected to reverse soemtimes quite a distance, only to discover the other person would only have had to go back a few yards. An raly fall meant I was a bit restricted but we enjoyed visits to Dartmouth, Totnes, Boat rides, RHS Rosemoor, Castle Drogo and lots of lovely (especially Salcombe) icecream.

Lovely cottage in good location, only issue was the narrow lanes. Lovely host who was most accommodating.

My sister and I stayed in Hollyhocks for 3 nights. We had a fantastic time and were even able to feed the sheep in the hostess Bernadette's field.
