Description

Nestled in tranquil countryside and within easy reach of Castle Howard and the sandy beaches of Scarborough and Bridlington.

Situated in the heart of the tranquil Yorkshire Wolds village of West Lutton, Holly House Cottage stands adjacent to the owner’s home. The cottage is single storey, cosy and carefully presented, and guests can enjoy a relaxing break here, amidst the beautiful landscape which inspired the famous paintings of David Hockney. The village has an historic church and a dog-friendly pub which is just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage. There are good farm shops in the neighbouring villages of Sledmere and Butterwick, and the award winning Yorkshire food town of Malton, 11 miles, is renowned for local produce, cafés, restaurants and monthly food market.
The area is popular for walking and cycling with numerous trails over the gentle undulating hills, alongside chalk streams and through hidden valleys. Local attractions include Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall and Wharram Percy Deserted Medieval Village. Miles of sandy beaches can be found at Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough, and RSPB Bempton Cliffs and Hornsea Mere are a birdwatcher’s paradise. Visit Sewerby Hall and gardens and the magnificent stately home of Castle Howard, and days out can be enjoyed at the historic walled city of York, 30 miles, and the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway at Pickering. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

We spent a really good weekend in Holly Cottage when our daughter was attending a wedding near -by and we were baby sitting. The cottage was very clean, well appointed, really nice touches milk, breakfast cereals, lemon drizzle cake, everything was just splendid! Would definitely recommend, would love to go again.

West Lutton is a nice quiet village with a brook running down the side of the road. The cottage looks small from the outside, but is like a tardis with generous size rooms, all of which were tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is a good size with all the equipment you might need. The owners were very friendly, and available if there was anything we needed. hey made a big fuss of our dog. The village does not have any shops but does have a very friendly pup, which serves food Wednesday to Sunday. The cottage was definitely the most clean and comfortable place in which we have stayed.

Absolutely splendid cottage, in a beautiful location in rural Yorkshire and the most amazing host anyone could ask for. Pam, the owner of the property, cares for her guests as though they are old friends. When we arrived, we found that she had left us fresh eggs from her hens, a cake, some lovely biscuits, milk, butter and loads more treats. The cottage is spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped and furnished. The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of pillows and fluffy clean towels. She has thoughtfully provided a good selection of games, DVDs and books for those guests just wishing to relax at the cottage. There is a pub that serves food just a short walk from the cottage, but we ate in the whole week so we cannot comment on the pub, but it looks nice. The cottage is in a village location which is peaceful and quiet. The nearest large supermarket is about 10 miles away in Malton which is a pleasant drive. In the evenings, we enjoyed opening up the French doors and just listening to the birds singing. The cottage is deceptively spacious and all on one level. We would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you Pam for a really lovely week!

We had an amazing stay, Pam really did think of everything. The board games were a great idea to have :-) I would highly recommend this cottage and we are looking forward to stay again in the near future.
