Description

Outdoor enthusiasts will love this beautifully presented Grade II listed barn, with walks from the doorstep, it provides the perfect base to explore the local areas.

Located in the rural village of Newchurch-in-Pendle, this beautiful Grade II listed, semi-detached stone barn, which dates back to the 16th century, offers tons of charm and period features alongside all the modern comforts to be expected from a holiday home.

The barn has been thoughtfully and lovingly restored to provide a spacious and welcoming home from home.

The village of Newchurch-in-Pendle which lies south of Pendle Hill, has a colourful history and is famous for the Pendle Witches who lived there during the 17th century. The neighbouring village of Barley, 1½ miles, is popular with walkers and often used as the starting point for a walk up Pendle Hill. It has a dog-friendly village pub, café, restaurant and picnic area. Drive on from Barley and time stands still in Downham (made famous by "Whistle Down the Wind" with Hayley Mills and many period dramas).

The village of Fence, 2 miles, has a few good dining pubs as well as a village shop and post office. A wider range of amenities can be found in the market town of Colne, 7 miles, which has a good selection of shops and supermarkets as well as bars, restaurants, theatres and Boundary Mill which is popular with bargain hunters. Barrowford, 3 miles, is absolutely worth a visit with its coffee shops, wine bars, boutique shops and if the mood takes you, some great takeaways.

Alternatively, on the north side of Pendle Hill lies Clitheroe, 6 miles, which offers wonderful shopping opportunities, a world-famous wine shop, and access to villages such as Waddington, with its real ale pubs.

Being close to the Lancashire/Yorkshire border makes this property the ideal touring base, as there is so much to see and do within easy driving distance. Haworth and Brontë country are certainly worth a visit, 17 miles, as is Skipton where you can browse the shops and stop for a spot of lunch, or even try an award winning Stanforths pork pie. Wycoller Country Park is only 10 miles and is great for a quiet family walk along the river and visiting the ruins of Wycoller Hall. The Ribble Valley District is 15 miles away, which offers picturesque villages and welcoming country pubs. Should you wish to venture further afield, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is within a 45-minute drive, and just over an hour’s drive will take you to the Lake District. For those who enjoy the coast, why not visit the Fylde Coast with popular seaside resorts including Blackpool, Lytham, St Anne’s and Morecambe.

Walking is one of the most popular activities in the area and there are walks to suit all levels of ability. It’s also a great area for fishing, cycling and golf. With something to suit everyone, this superb barn is the ideal place to relax and unwind after a day’s walking or sightseeing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Fantastic stay in this beautiful part of the country. The cottage offered stunning views and whilst being remote, was close enough to all that we needed to make for a great holiday. Will definitely be back!

Had a very enjoyable weekend at Higher Well Head Barn, celebrating my 40th Birthday. The house is very impressive on entering, in fact, we all agreed the photos don't do the house justice. The living room is very cosy, in the evening, but with plenty space for everyone. The central heating is brilliant and certainly no complaint of anyone being cold. All guests found their beds to be very comfortable, and the incredibly quiet location, had us falling asleep in no time. We'd highly recommend the house to future guests!

The barn is lovely on first entering. Needs extra bathroom/shower facilities though. Car parking is a problem if more than 2 cars. Not been cleaned very well if you look properly but on first sight it looked lovely. Lots off cobwebs on curtains and dust generally. But if you can ignore all of that. It was disappointing on the cleanliness respect though. And oh my word when we used the hoover it stunk the whole place out. Disgusting smell and set two of our eyes off streaming (dog smell) so that really does need addressing. On the positive side though a lot of thought has gone into provisions in the barn and the welcome pack was much appreciated. It's a good location and lovely views. I would stay again definitely and I have already recommended it to others.

Our annual Christmas girlie get together !! It was cold and snowing when we arrived but the house was soon warm and cosy with the heating on and logs burning on the fire. We soon had the room decorated and the tree up before tucking into the delicious bacon and sausage sandwiches we prepared from the much appreciated welcome pack . The following morning, after further snow fell overnight ,we were all amazed, the view was breathtaking . Perfect for our early Christmas !! The owner was very friendly and helpful and we were encouraged to contact her if any problems arose during our stay .
