Outdoor enthusiasts will love this beautifully presented Grade II listed barn, with walks from the doorstep, it provides the perfect base to explore the local areas.

Located in the rural village of Newchurch-in-Pendle, this beautiful Grade II listed, semi-detached stone barn, which dates back to the 16th century, offers tons of charm and period features alongside all the modern comforts to be expected from a holiday home.

The barn has been thoughtfully and lovingly restored to provide a spacious and welcoming home from home.

The village of Newchurch-in-Pendle which lies south of Pendle Hill, has a colourful history and is famous for the Pendle Witches who lived there during the 17th century. The neighbouring village of Barley, 1½ miles, is popular with walkers and often used as the starting point for a walk up Pendle Hill. It has a dog-friendly village pub, café, restaurant and picnic area. Drive on from Barley and time stands still in Downham (made famous by "Whistle Down the Wind" with Hayley Mills and many period dramas).

The village of Fence, 2 miles, has a few good dining pubs as well as a village shop and post office. A wider range of amenities can be found in the market town of Colne, 7 miles, which has a good selection of shops and supermarkets as well as bars, restaurants, theatres and Boundary Mill which is popular with bargain hunters. Barrowford, 3 miles, is absolutely worth a visit with its coffee shops, wine bars, boutique shops and if the mood takes you, some great takeaways.

Alternatively, on the north side of Pendle Hill lies Clitheroe, 6 miles, which offers wonderful shopping opportunities, a world-famous wine shop, and access to villages such as Waddington, with its real ale pubs.

Being close to the Lancashire/Yorkshire border makes this property the ideal touring base, as there is so much to see and do within easy driving distance. Haworth and Brontë country are certainly worth a visit, 17 miles, as is Skipton where you can browse the shops and stop for a spot of lunch, or even try an award winning Stanforths pork pie. Wycoller Country Park is only 10 miles and is great for a quiet family walk along the river and visiting the ruins of Wycoller Hall. The Ribble Valley District is 15 miles away, which offers picturesque villages and welcoming country pubs. Should you wish to venture further afield, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is within a 45-minute drive, and just over an hour’s drive will take you to the Lake District. For those who enjoy the coast, why not visit the Fylde Coast with popular seaside resorts including Blackpool, Lytham, St Anne’s and Morecambe.

Walking is one of the most popular activities in the area and there are walks to suit all levels of ability. It’s also a great area for fishing, cycling and golf. With something to suit everyone, this superb barn is the ideal place to relax and unwind after a day’s walking or sightseeing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

From the minute we walked into this property we felt at home, were it was located was everything we wanted, the views were fabulous, and it was so peaceful. The barn was tastefully decorated with a lovely wood burning fire, which we soon got going, which made the living room feel so warm and cosy, the kitchen was well equipped and their was even a welcome pack in the fridge which we didn't expect. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds were very comfortable and we had a great night sleep. The owner was very informative about the area, and told us how to get to the nearest village and more importantly the local pub, which is about a 30 minute walk but it was a lovely walk so was not a problem. We would definitely go back.

Lovely cottage, in a very quite country lane, 6 Adults 2 children and a dog the cottage was just perfect for us all. Very comfortable, log fire, great beds, a lovely welcome food pack, fabulous views, walk's just across the road.We all had a wonderful time. Games, Books, Maps... Thought of everything to make it home from home. Just 1 thing that needs looking at... a lock on the main bedroom door that leads to the only shower room,we had to put a sign up to say we were in the shower... Very pleased with our weekend away in this lovely cottage.

We had a lovely family, celebratory, short break at Higher Well Head Barn which was an absolutely perfect, spacious and comfortable barn in a picturesque rural location with stunning views, fantastic walks on the doorstep and great facilities in the barn itself for the evenings including a library of books for all ages and plenty of board games and DVD's to choose from. The owner was extremely helpful via text messaging and provided a well-appreciated welcome pack. There are no local amenities due to the rural location apart from two pubs in the next village, Newchurch in Pendle village itself only has a 'Witches Shop', hence the 8 rating but there are shops a short drive away including a large Tesco for deliveries and we brought everything with us for our short break. Would definitely recommend Higher Well Head Barn for any family with a dog or friends meeting up and would definitely love to return. Thank you for a memorable Birthday!

a bit isolated. the house could do with an update in areas, particularly the bathrooms and kitchen. it was very difficult to find the place and no indication that you have reached the house, more guesswork than a sign saying you have reached your destination. for the walkers, it's a perfect destination.

comfortable cottage. but not enclosed for our dog which is important. also we were all ill whilst staying there and for the last two days the water supply was abit sparce and our last night there we could not use the shower and the toilets would not flush, not want when you are having a chilled few days away.

Fantastic stay in this beautiful part of the country. The cottage offered stunning views and whilst being remote, was close enough to all that we needed to make for a great holiday. Will definitely be back!
