Within a 10-mile radius there are two racecourses, picturesque villages and fishing harbours, sandy coves and the high moorlands of Dartmoor. The Roman city of Exeter is approximately 15 miles, whilst bustling Torbay, 9 miles, which encompasses Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, has theatres, a yachting marina and a selection of fine gardens to visit; in addition to Kent’s Cavern, where the remains of some of Britain’s very earliest inhabitants (dating back approximately 25,000 years) were found. Here you’ll find castles, abbeys, wildlife parks, steam trains and model railways all within easy reach, with many open throughout the year. Newton Abbot’s attractions include Bradley Manor, a 15th-century manor house set in 70-acre woodlands and meadows, the Gorse Blossom Miniature Railway and Woodland Park, and a Hedgehog Hospital at Prickley Ball Farm. Pear tree cottage is in a great location with stunning views to the sea (though it rained virtually all the time we stayed so didn’t see them!) Cottage was very clean. We were disappointed that there was no welcome pack. We have always had one in cottages before! There was salt and pepper but nothing else in cupboards. Usually there is oil, spices left over from previous visitors. No soap in bathroom. Limited local information. Couldn’t find any emergency phone numbers. Bath towels were tiny ☹️ Owner was friendly but ‘I will fix outside light in morning’ : however he didn’t! We would like to think we would return but won’t as I’m sure there are better places! Sorry

Pear Tree Cottage is in a lovely location with stunning views. The cottage was comfortable and very peaceful but still conveniently located for visiting the beaches and towns. Personally I would suggest taking your own tea towel and washing up sponge but most other stuff was provided.

A very nice, homely cottage although a little dated. Wi-Fi and phone signal somewhat intermittent but we were able to manage most of the time. The owner came to explain c/h and bins and we did not need to contact him again during our stay. We could not find a hair dryer but we were not desperate so did not bother The owners. Car parking was a little awkward.
