The location was lovely, very peaceful. The cottage was attractive inside and out, and was very spacious. The caretaker was absolutely lovely, very kind, very friendly and helpful. The cottage is probably an ideal summer holiday rental, but sadly for us, we went over Christmas and New is an absolutely freezing property. On the booking site it does state that the gas or electric are 'metered supplies' but it does not state what the costs are or unit prices, nor does it state what the deposit is or how the fuel payments are calculated. It was a shock to discover that the gas units cost a staggering 4.54 Euros per unit and that the electric supply is charged at an additional cost. Trying to keep the property warm was impossible, the upstairs rooms were freezing, despite having the heating on full blast at all times. Our baby had to sleep in multiple layers, and wear at hat, and we were forced to provide him with several blankets and duvets. We went to bed wearing several layers, hats, socks and, as we were only using one of the three beds, we slept with all 3 duvets on, and were still cold. The boiler cannot heat sufficient hot water for the property as it is simply too small - so despite having a bath and two showers in the cottage, trying to produce enough hot water for 2 people to shower was a logistical nightmare. We attempted to bathe our baby, but gave up as the bath had a broken plug so the water would not stay in, and in any case, the cold tap was broken and could not be turned on at all, so it was not possible. The downstairs (windowless) bathroom had no working light, so could not be used, and it was not somewhere you wanted to be in any case as there was a sickening smell of sewers in there. We were only provided with one set of keys for the property, I suppose that if it was at full capacity (5 people+) then one set may be a problem. There was a portable electric heater, which we moved from room to room in a fruitless attempt to keep the house warm. The kitchen was fairly well-equipped, the only complaint was that there were no oven gloves provided and only 1 very thin tea towel - so using the oven or microwave was not that easy.
