In our long experience of self catering, Henny Penny Cottage must rank as one of the worst we’ve ever stayed in. The “nice” photos on the Website are deceiving, as -until you get there and see for yourself - things don’t become evident at all. The worst problem – which the Owner cannot do anything about – is the awful smell inside. We would go out for the day and, as soon as you open to the door to go back in, it hits you. The Cottage – or at least the Bedroom, Dressing Room and Bathroom - are completely damp and the smell is musty and fausty. This permeates the whole building, even when sat in the Lounge, and affects your clothes in the hanging space and drawers. The Bedroom walls, and the Dressing Room, both have damp patches on the walls. The Bathroom is permanently damp, and the vinyl flooring is bubbled and raised, so goodness knows what lies beneath. The bath – as others have reviewed – is dirty, and damaged, with some enamel chipped. There is no opening window in the bathroom for ventilation. The Extractor Fan there is not much use. It is a (very) cheap cottage, so I should not have expected too much. I didn’t realise – when booking – why it was so cheap. I thought it had been a Cancellation, or similar, but I now realise – having stayed there – that it’s not a good place to stay. The Reviews that refer to dust, dead flies, and far too much clutter are absolutely correct. The shelves, furniture, mantelpiece, floors are packed with (cheap) ornaments, trinkets, and an abundance of old plastic flowers in several vases. The place is extremely dated. There is a mop in the kitchen, but no bucket for it. There is no vacuum cleaner, but a standard push/pull carpet sweeper, so I agree that the note on the table about “cleaning before you leave” is a bit optimistic, to say the least. I was also somewhat concerned – maybe unnecessarily so – that there is only the one door in and out, and no Emergency Exit. Out of all the windows in the cottage, some have a high, small push out window, and most are fixed glass with no opening.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; There was no mention to myself or my husband about your dissatisfaction during your holiday, also you stayed for the full duration of the holiday even though you expressed this utter dissatisfaction.
